Three of us stayed here on a cycling holiday. Tom the manager is brilliant, a good cook and good company. Rooms are clean, a little dated, everything is reasonably priced, with a secure place for bicycles. We would stay there again.
Nearby activities: Fantastic for mountain biking and on a quiet B road for road cycling.

Just spent five nights in Newcastleton. We visited the Liddesdale hotel each day with our dog for a few drinks. Thomas the chef advised us on the Morrocan spicy beef which was absolutely superb. Very friendly locals who made us very welcome in the bar.

The breakfast was great. Thomas was a n excellent host. The rooms are a little tired but they are clean and warm. This is a great place to stay as there are some very good local walks. Thomas is also an excellent cook and makes you feel very welcome.

Was in a group of 6. Food was hot and tasty. And at a fair price. Would go again.

Helpful friendly staff. The manager, Tomasz does a great job. Decent food - evening and breakfast. House beer is Sam Smiths, hmm. Guest ale was OK. Bar lacks character or atmosphere- I assume it is owned by Smiths and they don?t like spending money- which shows. Accommodation was fine, clean and everything worked, but basic and tired - a bit like the rest of the place. Wi-Fi was close to non existent. Feels like it is kept going by good staff but needs a bit of TLC.

Although I wouldn?t say our midweek drink was a poor experience, it was a little bleak. As the only customers, the landlord sipping a lonely pint at the bar told us he?d have usually shut up by 8pm and that the culture around pubs and going out for a drink had changed. The hotel itself had certainly declined - it was clean but the open fire and tradition fittings were gone. It wasn?t a cosy lounge. For the sake of nostalgia I had a peek in the other room - which was in darkness. It came across from the landlord I was being nosy! We didn?t feel hugely welcome so just had half a Tennants lager which to be fair was good . Perhaps at a busier time there may be more hospitality.

Tomasz made us very welcome on arrival, with safe overnight bike storage, a great evening menu (and customisation of that as required). Lovely evening in the bar (with good beer), a great nights sleep and then breakfast and back on the road!
