For where it is and what he has to offer it was a pleasant place to go if ya camping , or just visiting for the day . We were there end of July and the bar was just getting its self right, didn't spoil the visit . Will definitely be there again when we visit ...
Oooooo the home made chips were very nice indeed ?

Very quiet for a Friday evening.
On entering you are faced with open loo doors, which is a huge turn-off. Entering the main room, on this evening it lacked atmosphere, however we bought drinks and perused the limited menu, choosing fish and chips.
Well?the draft ale was well kept and the food was excellent, no complaints at all. Good portion sizes, delicious fish and proper chips.
Service, both at the bar and kitchen, was very good, thanks all concerned.
But with the TV blaring away, and the predominant signs warning against drug taking and abuse, I would struggle to recommend to a friend. The sign saying ?no twats? is not funny.
The management needs to look at the place through a customers eyes and make subtle changes if this place is to enjoy repeat business.

I'd love to be able to actually give a review for this pub but we stayed for three nights in July at the adjoining campsite and it was NEVER open! Entirely the owner's discretion when they open of course, but why go to the bother of having a website telling everyone how amazing you are, if you don't actually want people to visit! Or if you do only open a few nights a week, maybe advertise that, and tell the campsite?!

Was on a holiday for 4 days at a nearby AirBnB. From Monday to Friday. The place was not open once when we walked past hoping for drinks or food. Even though the website states it?s open from 12:00 mon-fri.
Reply to owner: What a pile of complete spiel. Maybe the area was so rural you were off scavenging food supplies for customers in the woods. There was multiple groups of people stopping off by your establishment but no owner to be seen. As I checked everyday to see if you were open. Seems like Mr/Mrs Tavern Business owner was too lazy or uninterested to even open at their disclosed opening times.
P.s Maybe try open at ur websites opening times. Than replying to honest negative reviews on google.

Very quiet when we went in. Staff lovely quick service and portions were too big. Cheap enough. Dog friendly place.

Nice straight forward pub.

Asked for tea, it came in a tiny cup with milk added, when I said we needed it without milk, the young girl seemed really annoyed. Anyhow, 2 teas, one bag of nuts, and a sack of attitude, not worth the £6.50. Shame really as there's nothing else around and this place could be great.

We ordered a vegan option on the menu, it took over an hour to arrive after being chased several times. When it arrived it arrived with cheese.
Combined with some missing orders and cold food we were thoroughly let down.
In defence, the manager was really apologetic and tried his best to get the food out but the quality let him down.
Edit post response:
We as a group really appreciate the effort the manager put into the staffing on the day! If the series of events following us being there are as stated then I can only applaud the work of the manager. As stated earlier, the manager was massively upset at the time and tried everything to get the food out it. If the staff have been replaced I can only hope for better.

It's taken a while to write this but i wanted to make sure i did this place justice rather than write a rushed review. What a find. I was passing through the area travelling from having spent a few days in the Lakes over to Northumberland. I'd wanted to visit the forest for a while now and this place was the perfect place to stop for food. It was my birthday so was really hoping the reviews were accurate. I needn't of doubted a thing. The food was amazing quality, honestly the best gammon i've ever had, Malcolm the owner told me he sources it locally and you can tell it's real quality. The chips were amazing too, i'd heard good things and they definitely lived up to the hype. I had a good chat with Malcolm about this and that, he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to the hospitality trade and The Kielder Tavern is a great example of how a pub should be run. If you're in the area, you'd be mad not to try this place. Thanks to Malcolm and staff for making me feel so welcome. I'll definitely return if i'm back in the area.
