“Whilst visiting the area with our motorhome we called in for dinner and as it transpired was the local quiz night.
After an absolute delicious dinner we were asked if we wanted to join the locals in the quiz.
The food is very much pub grub but you won’t go home hungry and will still be licking your lips the next morning.
The steak pie options are to die for.
We have never met such a welcoming group who immediately made us feel at home.
Yes, some areas of the hotel are a bit dated but it does have that “village pub feel” which you can see just works.
The staff were brilliant but must make a special mention to Dee Dee who worked tirelessly with a smile and watched everything to make sure guests were welcomed and tentatively looked after .. great job, it didn’t go unnoticed.
Best to book for dinner, if we’re back in the area we’ll head straight there.
Thank you and no … we unfortunately didn’t win the quiz!”

“We use this hotel when we travel up for work, spending 2 nights, bed and breakfast.
This is a really lovely hotel and very reasonably priced. Rooms are spacious and clean, all staff are friendly and nothing is to much on request, from extra teabags, milk in your room from housekeeping, reception, the food is amazing, credits to the kitchen staff at both breakfast where the lady who serves always has a smile to the evening meal in the restaurant which is also open to the public.
Highly recommend staying at this hotel, we will definitely be back”
“The perfect place for trips to nearby beaches and castles (Mey and Balmoral are close by). The hotel is well-maintained, and the rooms are well-equipped for tourists. The food will satisfy even the most discerning palate. In my opinion, it was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the evening atmosphere of the pub was simply phenomenal. “Went to the Anchor Hotel for the first time for dinner. I am a vegetarian and also very picky about food. I like that the menu has quite a few vegetarian options that are not just the bare minimum and usuals. I ended up having the goats cheese salad which was excellent. Service was friendly and quick. Definitely will be going again to explore some more of the menu”
