We booked a room last minute on the drive down from the Isle of Skye, the team were friendly and accomodating. They made sure we had a dinner reservation despite it being late - the meal was fantastic (chicken schnitzel homemade colslaw, triple cooked chips) and the bar and casual restaurant area cosy. Our room was spacious, comfortable and warm. We had a huge bed and the walk in shower had great water pressure. The hotel was spotless and well cared for, with lots of areas to relax.Just what we needed after a long day!

From walking in my wife and I were very impressed by the hotel . Our room overlooked the courtyard and was well appointed . Good size bed , large shower . Tea and coffee in room. . The decor is very relaxing and quirky. Did not have dinner but menu looked great. Breakfast excellent and service was first class . Will definitely stay here next time heading north .

Wonderful hotel, with super rooms and an amazing resturant. The staff are the friendliest we have come across and they go the extra mile to make it the best experience. We will certainly be staying again soon.Moffat is an interesting town with lots of history and is well worth a visit. There are great walks from just behind the Hotel along the Annandale Trail up to the Devils Beef Tub. With great views and superb countryside right on your doorstep it is a top place to come to.

This lovely, charming hotel is totally underated at 3stars. Our room was extremely comfortable and the bathroom and shower was exceptional. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and it was so nice to have a freshly cooked breakfast rather than food kept warm in hot plates. But the highest accolade must go to the wonderful staff. They were all so pleasant, welcoming and helpful and made us feel as if we were in a friend's home. A great plus for us was the genuine friendly welcome given to our dog, Buddy. We love visiting the Borders and when we next visit we wouldn't stay anywhere else.Walkability: Right in the centre so everything on the doorstep.Noteworthy details: The decor was beautiful but not intimidating and the grounds were stunning. The fountain at the front was magical.

We arrived to a warm, friendly, and welcoming reception from Caroline, who checked us in and showed us to our King Size Deluxe Room. The bedroom - was lovely. The bed was very comfortable with crisp white cotton bedding, perhaps a bit on the firm side for some people but comfortable for us. The room was decorated well, and the furnishings suited the hotel. There was no wardrobe in the room, but there was a small cupboard to hang clothes. The bathroom - was large and airy with an excellent shower and a nice selection of toiletries. Food - We ate out at night, so we can not comment on evening meals, but we did have breakfast in the morning. The cooked Scottish breakfast was presented nicely. However, we did not feel there was any need for a griddled spring onion on top as this did not enhance the presentation or flavour in any way. The bacon was the star of the plate, cooked nicely, and was good quality and very tasty. We prefer our haggis to be somewhat more peppery, but that is personal taste. I asked for my scrambled eggs to be well done, and they were perfectly cooked. However, my husband's poached egg was hard with no runny yolk, so disappointing for him. The toast was your run of the mill cheap supermarket bread, and for an establishment like this, we would have expected home made or at least some artisan breads. Staff - this is where the hotel has a lot to learn. Apart from Caroline, who greeted us, and the maintenance man who was cheery and friendly, we found the staff to be for more self-absorbed in their mobiles or personal telephone calls than in customer service. On leaving the hotel in the evening, a young lady with dark hair was sitting at reception. I looked over to smile and say Good evening, but she never even lifted her head or acknowledged us. In the morning a young man was "lounging" at reception on obviously a personal call, laughing he'd "have to buy a cheap one", far too busy to even once again acknowledge us. The young man in the dining room wearing the black shirt greeted us well and was polite and mannerly to us however, we then witnessed him keeping another couple standing waiting to be shown to a table for breakfast whilst he stood texting, he looked up to notice them but then continued texting. This really let the hotel down for us, and to be honest is my lasting impression of the hotel. Their staff need to be trained in customer service and should not be allowed to make personal calls or texts whilst front-of-house. Overall, we have given the hotel 4 out of 5, but in reality, it would be 3.5 if this was available.

Lovely hotel with really friendly staff who go out of their way to make sure you have a fabulous experience. If something is not perfect please don't go elsewhere, let the hotel know and they do their absolute best to sort it out. We have stayed twice now. The rooms, bar and conservatory are all beautifully decorated. The dining room was an unexpected gem and the food is fantastic. Thank you all, we can't wait to come back!
