Convenient from the M74, the Famous Star has been our stop-off of choice for food when driving to/from Scotland. A great selection of classic homemade pub food. Always good portions of quality food and excellent value for money in a unique building. Highly recommended and only 5mins off the M74.

Great restaurant for stop-off on way north/south. Have used the Star on/off(COVID) for ten years or so. On treks to Aberdeen and vice versa. Always great, good-value food and friendly staff. Highly recommended, any season, any weather.

Frequent visitor to Moffat and have eaten at the Star numerous times. On this occasion I had booked a table at another hotel in the village but found that they didn't have a kids menu available despite on booking I had advised that the party consisted of 2 children & that a highchair was required. Having decided to leave without eating we went to the Star hoping that they would have a free table though unlikely on a Saturday night. Fortunately we were eating early at 5pm to fit in with the routine of the children. The staff were fantastic as usual and managed to fit us in at short notice. They were very welcoming to us all including the children. There was a good choice of food on the children's menu. Food as usual was very nice and staff very efficient and textile. I was grateful that we had managed to get a table.

Was visiting Moffat with my husband, mum and our 2 dogs. Had just had the dogs on a long walk to tire them out so we could eat while they slept. Asked if they allow dogs before entering, yes they did which was great. They also allowed me to feed the dogs, used our own bowls. But it all went downhill fast. Our 20 month labradoodle manage to escape my husband grip and went for a wonder. But we got him back, no harm done. But the atmosphere changed, our dogs settled on the floor but the staff requested that we put them under the table. Given the size of our doodle 33kg this was not practical. We were requested to sit at the table as you come in the door which resulted in our dogs being in the path of people coming in. If you have large dogs avoid if you want to relax. No water was offered for the dogs. As for the food it was OK. Unfortunately though my mum struggles to eat, and only managed a few mouthfuls before we left due to how uncomfortable we were made ro feel. Staff were especially rude, they did not value our custom. Went to the black bull for tea, coffee and cake afterwards and were made extremely welcome. Just a petty they were not serving food.

?Narrowest hotel in the world? the sign says. Great menu offering. Had the haggis stuffed chicken breast, chips and whisky sauce - not for the feint hearted! The scampi was delicious. Good selection of beers including local brew. Worth booking in advance.

Stopped off on the way down south. Fabulous lunch. Macaroni was the usual legendary dish. The chicken dish gorgeous and the fish special to die for. Was actually better than normal and that saying something. Joel was great. Will pop back in on the way home. Great wee lunch and great wee price.

Booked a table here Friday evening, the bar is lovely and we have been her a few times in the past for a drink; the menu doesn't look anything special, yet the food is rather good. We shared some haggis bon bons to start which were very tasty with a nice sauce and salad. We both had hake from the specials menu. Two large pieces of hake nicely cooked with a Spanish tomato sauce, potatoes and green beans. The table service is smooth and professional, the ding room is warm and welcoming. We do a lot of travelling in the UK and this meal was one of the best in a long time. We saw several other dishes being delivered to other tables and they all looked delicious.
