This has always been one of my favourite museums in Scotland but since the refurbishment and extension it is an even better experience than before. Kilmartin Glen now has a museum which truly reflects and explains in depth the Iron & Bronze Age history of the area. The medieval gravestones in the churchyard next door are a bonus too. All it needs now is for the wonderful café to reopen this year, fingers crossed.

First visit to renovated museum since it opened in September and it didn't disappoint.Started with more recent history of the area and went all the way back to the Neolithic. Just wow. There's activities for children and adults alike, as well as videos of how things were made such as clay pots. This one blew my mind as I thought it would be like more recent pottery but no bronze age food vessels are made completely differently. There are tonnes of local finds on exhibit and explanations to put them in context. Particularly loved looking at the glebe cairn sparkly food vessel whilst looking at the cairn itself out the window. At the end there is an atmospheric immersive film and then it's back to the real world again where you can visit the places where the finds were from. Awesome.Ok I am biased. I have been coming here for over 25years and I visited the old museum and fell in love with both the area and archaeology. It's not hard. It's an awesome place but I think they have done a really good job to grab the average punter to tell their story. There is free parking, a large reception, a small shop but no cafe yet. Next year they reckon.

Really amazing museum which has had a major upgrade.Top quality exhibits in a fabulous self guided space with plenty of interactive activities which kids would love.I especially enjoyed the 5 stamping stations where you can emboss a collectors card with different images.

The museum was great. However, there is room for improvements,I feel like the entry fee for what is on offer is a little steep, I also feel the journey through the museum could have told a better story of the kilmartin glen area,Upon entry, you are straight into exhibits without explaining any story about the area or the museum. If a short introduction either via member of staff or video clip would have been a better welcome and explain a brief history and story behind the area and what you are about to see. Also the gift shop very limited stock that was overpriced and had no connection to anything that was in the museum.

Brand new museum, highlighting the local history, in theory, but really applicable to anywhere in the country. Fabulously presented, though the video presentation at the end was laughable and put a downer on the visit. We did the walk from the museum and it was underwhelming, to say the least. Museum well worth a visit but don't base your day around it.

I visited the museum on holiday as a break from the motorbike with the family. Very nice establishment which brings tourists to the Kilmartin village. The car park was full which isn't a bad thing. We bought ice creams from the van which stops there every Monday and I had a look in the gift which had a great range of craft gift like Jewellery, coasters etc. There is also a nice selection of books on history and local geography.

Marks for potential. The museum has been extensively expanded and renovated but remains closed in June 2023. The museum will display many of the finds from the surrounding area. New extended parking area at the museum.

Although the museum will reopen only in July 2023, the grounds etc are accessible for visitors. The whole place takes you back into history. You can feel it (or it might just be bingeing on Vikings and the Last Kingdom!)

Gorgeous place, tidy toilets. A few hiccups with the drinks, however this was rectified quickly. Unfortunately museum was closed due to covid, but nice area to sit

Unfortunately closed due to Covid. The cafe was open though and of course you can still visit Dunadd and Nether Largie. Standing stones don't close. Cafe was great with friendly staff. Always worth a visit to Kilmartin and the churchyard.

Didn't actually visit the museum at it was closed due to covid, but the coffee shop was open and staff are pleasant. The important thing to do when you visit the museum/cafe is BUY THEIR BOOK. It is excellent and full of information, maps and photographs of all the walks and things to visit in Kilmartin Glen. We used it slot for our week visit, and bought a second copy for a neighbour.

Small rustic museum, but just packed with artefacts and descriptions of life in the adjacent valley from the ice age to the middle ages. Really fascinating to see what sorts of people lived there and how they subsisted through the ages. Mind blowing that rise and fall of sea levels affected local biology. Just outside and down into the valley, a stone age cairn you can visit. Wow, it took immense work to schlep those large stones from somewhere! If you're a curious type, museum is well worth a few quid admission.

Interesting museum with hands-on activities (great for kids or adults!). Lovely café with good vegetarian options, fantastic scones, and great views from the conservatory part. Very friendly, helpful staff. Nice gift shop and free parking outside.

Great little museum with lots of artifacts outside. Nice area for hiking. The ladies in the bistro are probably the nicest I have ever met. Delicious tea & snacks.
