A very lovely hotel. I would definitely recommend coming out here to visit! The food here is divine, and the views are beautiful ??(The picture is a traditional scottish breakfast) ?

Booked a table for 4 adult family members. Welcoming and well-trained staff made the visit most enjoyable. The menu made great use of local produce, especially seafood, but prices were very reasonable compared to other West Coast restaurants. Interesting location with fantastic views.Walkability: Set in beautiful location at the northern end of the Crinan Canal, with a wide choice of walks and cycle rides for all abilitiesFood & drinks: Excellent service menu and wine list

The staff are lovely, the scenery is some the best in Scotland. The food is great and the hotel has a nice relaxed atomosphere. The rooms are nice, albeit they could do with a makeover. I have visited three times and will be going back many more.Rooms: The roo.s are tired, but clean and have original artworks.Nearby activities: Boat Trips run from the hotel. The scenery, history and wildlife are well worth a trip.Walkability: Canal psth and Mmore rugged walking readily available.Food & drinks: Great seafood menu.

We arrived at this beautiful, quirky hotel following the recommendation of a friend who has stayed many times before. The setting is spectacular on the banks of the sea loch alongside the Crinan Canal. The hotel is a family run business and the family were incredibly welcoming. The artwork of Frances MacDonald and her son Ross Ryan adorn the walls. Decoration of rooms and guest lounges is understated and a soft country style. We stayed in a room with a terrace which was on the top floor (there is a lift if you don't fancy the stairs). There were spectacular views out over the canal system and also over the sea loch.We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel on both days of our stay. Food was excellent with a great choice including local seafood.Service was also excellent with all staff being very friendly and helpful. We will be returning.

Amazing views.Food & drinks: Small menu options but good quality is very good.Noteworthy details: Lounge area to chill and talk to fellow travellers is a great idea.

I?ve just spent two nights at the Crinan Hotel and left with mixed emotions. This wasn?t my first visit but I feel they?re dining out on the location and letting standards slip. People describe it as quirky but let?s call it for what it is and that?s tired at best and poorly maintained. You can somehow forgive the rough edges on the accommodation but what I can?t accept was the poor service and the number of dishes crossed off the menu. Staff training is poor, to be given a menu and not told three of the main courses weren?t available until we attempted to order, all seafood dishes as apparently the boat was in for maintenance ? Too many times we had to chase up drinks orders and at breakfast we had to ask for toast three times before it eventually arrived , unfortunately after my wife had finished her breakfast., the staff didn?t have the ability to anticipate your requirements such as when sitting with an empty glass or even clearing the table in a timely manner, they didn?t even level toilet paper in our room. We had coffee at the basin cafe and I could only describe it as a farce, we had to clear our own table as did everyone else. We stood in a queue for a good while and ordered hot food off the board only to be informed they weren?t doing hot food, why not turn the board around, the whole experience was one of amateurism. This hotel is all about it?s location and quality of food but without some serious management supervision the service levels will continue to decline. One last point is regarding the lift which I regard as dangerous, if you are elderly or disabled and not quick off the mark the door can easily catch you out as it did me, it closes with some force and doesn?t retract if you?re not clear of it.

This slightly quirky family-run hotel enjoys what must be one of the finest locations in all the British Isles ? right on the shore of Loch Crinan looking out over the sea to islands large and small, and also cheek-by-jowl with the Crinan Canal sea-lock and basin. Expect gorgeous views at all times, amazing sunsets in the summer months, and the continuous entertainment of boats passing in and out of the canal. There are lots of local walks in woods and up hills, and boat trips of various kinds are available close by. The hotel prides itself on its seafood, but sadly some of it was out of stock when we arrived for a three-night stay, and almost all of it by our third evening, which was disappointing. The food they hadn?t run out of was of high quality, excellently cooked and presented. The wine list is extensive and very ambitious ? there are great names as well as interesting, more modest bottles. The mostly young staff are smart, well-trained, and friendly, though at busy times they can get a bit overwhelmed and start to forget things. Breakfasts are very good, with everything served to the table, no buffet. There is an upmarket fish restaurant on the top floor, but it is open only sporadically (not when we were there), and not always at the times stated on the website. The two bars have a good selection of gins and whiskies, but the beer range ? apart from the presence of one local brewer?s wares - is sadly routine and limited; it?s as if the recent craft brewing revolution has passed by un-noticed. Of particular note is ?The General?s Bar?, a small wood-lined room dominated by the general himself ? a highland bull whose stuffed and mounted head, complete with enormous horns, surveys the scene. A major plus is that there is no muzak anywhere. The rooms all have that wonderful view, and some have balconies too. Ours was clean, comfortable and recently re-decorated, though the bathroom was rather dated. The owner is a successful artist and her paintings are scattered around the public areas and the top-floor gallery, but if you?d like to buy one and you need to ask the price, you probably can?t afford it. All in all this is a charmingly individual hotel in a remarkable location, and although not cheap it can be thoroughly recommended as long as you don?t mind a few minor misfires here and there.

Went up for lunch, it was a glorious day and the canal and hotel are so pretty, beautiful part of the country! Food was good although the boat broke down so no langoustines but they gave us another lobster for the platter instead. Family had a variety of dishes, great feedback on them all.
