This was a holiday experience now crossed off our 'to do list'. Bad bits first, we had to phone reception because we only had one hand towel & one bath towel between us but extras were sent up within 2 minutes. No grab handle to help climb into the bath to use the shower BUT there was an anti-slip mat provided. Good bits was the food, 5 choices on starters, mains & desserts which included a lamb casserole on our first night. Breakfasts were also OK with a self service on cereals & table service on hot food.

Stayed here on a coach trip around the Islands. A really great experience. Pleasant, friendly staff, good clean rooms and excellent meals. Welcomed on arrival by the Duty/Senior manager and looked after throughout our stay. Would recommend this hotel and certainly stay again.

Coach tour from South Wales. Hotel located opposite ferry terminal, arrived in the morning dropped off our luggage and did a days tour of the north, on returning late afternoon luggage was in our room. Bedroom quite large with substantial furniture, comfortable beds. Staff were very good made sure my wife who s in a wheelchair was looked after. Evening meal and breakfast was very good, particularly the breakfast, best on tour, black pudding was excellent, like to know were it came from. Because we were on a two night stay room is not made up. Overall a well located comfortable hotel.

Not our usual hotel when on Shetland as independent travellers. Comfortable bedroom. ( 509 ) Overlooking the road, ferry terminal & commercial buildings but we did find it noisy. As others have reported the window frames no longer in the first flush of youth but the window opened closed OK. A wall socket with two 13amp 7 two USB sockets did not work. The hotel has since assures me that has been fixed. Did not use the Wi-Fi for much more than email but fine for that. The Table d'Hote evening meals were OK. Plenty of selection at the ho/cold buffet breakfast. Did not have much to do with the staff apart from one who told us what she alleged had happened at a Shetland event. We have since contacted people we know who attended. They contend she has had her leg pulled.

A lovely hotel. Very accommodating to guests needs. The rooms are nicely appointed, very clean with nice linens, fluffy towels and comfortable beds. The only downside was that it was VERY warm for Shetland and the hotel has no air conditioning ( they never need it), no fans and our was rather warm and close. But we acclimated quickly. The food in the restaurant was superb. Large portions and excellent service. Of note was Megan. She was so pleasant, effecient and helpful. She went out of her way to make us comfortable; calling a taxi, making local suggestions and always with a smile. Megan is an asset to Shetland Hotel, someone I wish there were more of in the states. I enjoyed the brief stroll to the shoppes on Commercial Street. Oh, best of all its located on the water across from the Northlink Ferry. All in all a very pleasant stay.

I booked this hotel as I was traveling solo to meet with some recently discovered cousins while undertaking a search of my late father?s mother when we discovered that her father was born in Yell. The accommodation in Shetland doesn?t have many options but I found that this hotel was better than expected and my room was much larger than the usual UK room sizes. Upon checking in the Assistant Manager Jane welcomed me to the hotel warmly and explained how the meals and bar operated. Colin at the bar was friendly and helpful as well as Jessica and the General Manager Marjory was a delightful lady also and even helping with the service along with Jane. Imagine my surprise that all of the above staff were serving dinner and then breakfast the next morning as there are acute staff shortages in Shetland and they all were smiling and clearly loved their jobs. Guests were comprised of individual tourists, a tour bus group and some great trade guys who were quite regular guests who were real characters. The hotel doesn?t look much from the outside but inside it was warm, spotless and comfortable and opposite the ferry terminal from Aberdeen and a reasonable walk into Lerwick centre and close to a Co Op for whatever needs you may have to buy. Planning a trip next year with my wife so as to explore even more of these wonderful islands.

Had a great experience at The Shetland Hotel this weekend. Rooms are large, warm, furniture is quality and the bathroom was nice and clean as well. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We are both gluten intolerant, and they advised they could cater for that. We decided to order room service breakfast, and the staff member on reception helped us fill in the card, and marked it very clearly as gluten free. Breakfast was delicious both days, came bang on the time we had requested and was presented on a tray etc. Sundries were easily available from reception, including toiletries. There was a smart TV in the room as well. Easy disabled parking for us to use right beside the front door. Our one small complaint was the WiFi disconnected a lot, but the first night there was a large function so it's likely it was just a bit overloaded, as the next day was much better. On that note, you wouldn't have known there was anything on from the room, it was very quiet! Will definitely be back, for the service alone.

I had 2 nights here while spending time in Lerwick. From the outside, the hotel looked very drab and is right on the main road meaning a lot of traffic noise. No friendly face to enable a check in - instead just a line of papers and keys on a desk and an instruction how to get more towels and toilet rolls. The corridors are long and dark with fire doors that make aloud noise as they close. Inside the room, the windows were filthy but the rest of the room was clean and the bed very comfortable enough so as not to be disturbed too much by traffic. There is very limited choice in Lerwick and the price reflects this. Very expensive for what you get.

Not appealing from outside. Corridor to rooms very dark. Room dated but ok for one night. Opposite ferry terminal on main road. Could hear all traffic, windows require resealing. Bed comfortable enough. Main asset is staff, couldn?t do enough for guests and very friendly/welcoming. Expensive for what hotel offers

The first thing we noticed about the hotel was the dirty and misty windows, which gave the hotel a depressing look. However, it was clean in all respects. Good clean comfortable bed. The room fittings were tired and one socket did not work, together with a very wonky standard lamp. The shining star was the restaurant for its varied, well cooked food and service. On balance, we would stay again.

We stated at this hotel for two nights, after visiting other islands and found it very warm and welcoming. The staff were very friendly especially the two young people at breakfast time and the room was very comfortable overlooking the harbour. Beautiful artwork in the restaurant.

We booked into here for our first stay on Shetland and were disappointed on arrival. It looks like it needs a huge amount of investment externally and internally. The bottom of the stairs area smelt of damp. Our room was very dated and needed an overhaul, although the bathroom, was relatively modern. On mentioning to several locals where we were staying we were told they referred to it as a prison camp from its exterior! The front desk staff were helpful and the breakfast staff were friendly and it appears there are regular return visitors but we felt it was over-priced for the condition and regrettably we wouldn't stay there again - one of the few places we have ever had to write that about. There is a very large free car park and wifi was good but drop the price or invest in it to merit the charges.
