I arrived as a walking puddle, having been caught in a spot of monumental rain as I completed my walk around the bottom half of Bressay.i was welcomed in, despite my state, and proceeded to have a superb time eating a yummy carrot and coriander soup, beer, and spirits with some locals.a mad, and slightly wobbly dash 100m to the ferry back to lerwick roubded out a wonderful experience

Lovely stay ay Maryfield House Hotel, we've eaten there in the past, but this was our first stay. We had room 1 which had the most stunning views, I moved the chair to sit looking out of the window whenever possible - great to see the Northlink ferry arrive every morning. The accommodation is at a very high standard and the owners can't do enough for you. Breakfast was superb, and the evening meal was very good. On Sunday they just serve bar snacks in the evening as they've spent most of the day cooking and serving Sunday lunch - we couldn't possibly have done that as breakfast was good and filling. It is VERY popular with locals, so if you want Sunday lunch, be sure to book. Husband loves the whisky collection, and I want a wine rack like the one in the restaurant! Thank you very much, hopefully we will be back again! Lovely stay. p.s. please arrange for the Northern Lights to put in an appearance during our stay next time - we left on the ferry on Monday, arriving at home in the Midlands 24 hours later, and I woke up on Wednesday morning at home to see the most amazing photos from Shetland where the aurora had kicked of the season spectacularly! Why didn't we book a few nights more?

If you know you know! This is gem in the Shetlands. Do ?t let the plain outwardly appearance of this hotel fool you. Inside it?s delightful, with clean, modern rooms , comfortable beds and excellent cooking. with the hosts extremely friendly and welcoming. The best seafood and Lobster around ! There is also an extensive whisky bar!

Absolutely stunning and authentic manor with a stunning perfectly kept garden with a secret trail to take for a little adventure. A beautiful view through the stunning back gate over lerwick harbour and a brilliant host for the day. Couldn't fault it and look forward to our next visit.

We had a meal here for a bit if luxury while on Bressay in our campervan and after doing Bressay Parkrun in the morning (the hotel was fully booked or we'd have stayed as well.)From walking in to a marvellous display of their wines, almost an art feature, we had a fantastic time. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, particularly about the wine we had (the chocolate merlot from South Africa). We had soup of the day and scallops with black pudding as starters, sunflower shaped (and sized) filled pasta and seafood stew for mains, then cheese and biscuits for afters (with port). The food was lovely and we had a lovely time. Highly recommended and with the trip over from Lerwick on the ferry.

This little hotel situated on the beautiful island of Bressay is a secret place. The rooms are spacious with a nice view on the city of Lerwick. The bathroom was all renovated with fluffy towels and pleasant shower. The seafood is excellent and extremely fresh. You have the nice feeling of being the guests in a manor house. It is very fun to take the Bressay ferry to go back and forth downtown, if needed. The hotel gives also easy access to the wonderful natural reserve of Noss. James, the owner will do everything he can to please you and make your stay unforgettable.

Although I?ve said this was a ?Couples? stay, I was on Shetland working but brought my wife with me. This meant I had no input into where I was staying - my employer booked it. And what a favour they did me/us. We?d sailed overnight from Orkney and I?d done a bit of work before heading over to Bressay on the short ferry ride from Lerwick to the hotel. We were warmly greeted by James upon arrival and shown to the outstanding Room 2. More later about the room, but a wee mention on James instinctively taking my wife?s suitcase up to the room - a small gesture that speaks volumes about who you?re dealing with. That first impression bode well. James would turn out to be the most genial and friendly host. The room itself was simply exquisite. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the heating was excellent and the large bathroom with power-shower was divine. The view from the room was gorgeous - down the garden, across the ferry port and across to Lerwick. It was stunning. After unpacking, showering and changing, we headed down for dinner. We both opted for the Chicken Stroganoff - freshly cooked by James? wife Nelly. It was out of this world. Be assured, this woman can cook and she does not scrimp on the portions. There was plenty. For afters we both had the Sticky Toffee Pudding - it was basically a party for your tastebuds. Absolutely superb. After dinner we went back to our room for a wee rest. Our plan was to head back down to the bar, but once we lay on the bed it was lights out! It was just so comfy!! Breakfast the next morning was another triumph - whatever you want; cereal, cooked, toast etc; it?s all available. And it?s all delicious. We headed out shortly afterwards across to Lerwick - I had jobs to do and we planned some sightseeing. The sightseeing took us to Sumburgh Head for a bit of Puffin watching. This meant we would be back later than anticipated. We decided to phone the hotel and let them know. When we eventually got back to the hotel we changed and went down to the bar and properly met James & Nelly. We had a memorable evening in their company and that of a few locals. It was a terrific wee night and we?ll remember it for a long time to come. To sum up, The Maryfield House is one of the best places I/we?ve ever stayed. It?s spotless. It?s welcoming. It?s well run. It?s friendly. It?s comfortable. The food is first class. It?s everything you want in a small, family-run hotel and so much more. I/we hope to return to Shetland next year, if so then I?ll be asking my work to book me back in here. It was fabulous. If you go to Shetland, then do yourself a favour and seek out this absolute gem of a place.

Relaxed Sunday Roast We booked a table for Sunday lunch not knowing what to expect we were pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival we were seated on a small table right next to a bar it was quite restrictive, however before we had settled the waiter asked if?s we would like to move into the other room where we wouldn?t be so cramped, what a lovely room it was ? very tastefully decorated with black and white blown up local prints ? and lots of fish decorative wall and ceiling arrangements, novel and nicely done! The food was really good along with the service despite the fact that it was only the waiters second shift. There were a few questions we asked that he openly admitted he didn?t know the answer too but quickly found out. For any whisky drinkers out there the collection is most impressive! Quite a gem worth the ferry ride to dry there!
