We ate in the restaurant on multiple occasions during a recent holiday. An excellent experience.
The food was top notch, great presentation, large portions with clever accompaniments and garnish. Made for an above average experience.
The staff were attentive pleasant and very helpful. All one could wish.
Great place. We will stop in again next time we are passing.

This hotel was one of the coziest, cutest hotels we?ve ever stayed. The bedding was so comfortable and everything felt so clean and fresh. We were visiting for a wedding that was being held at the castle and it was a perfect location (about a 10-12 minute walk and only five minute drive from the castle). There?s a local pub, grocery, and bakery, which are all super cute. We got the full local experience staying here! They have a wonderful option for breakfast in the mornings if you choose and they?ll have it prepared at the table at your time of choice (I believe between 7-9am). They also have options for lunch and dinner which is super convenient. The owner was just so personable and kind to us, going above and beyond to help us with certain transportation back to Edinburgh. I recommend renting a car if you are staying in this area or definitely just make sure to call ahead to book your car or taxi service.

We dined at the restaurant, didn't stay at the hotel. Overall food was good but service was pretty relaxed and took awhile. Lasagna was good, very big portion. Roast chicken was decent, could have been more flavorful. We did really like the Arancini! Inside of the restaurant was really cute and decorated nicely. Staff were very kind. I would come back if in the area!

Had lunch here on a Saturday on the way to the Melrose Rugby 7s. The food was great and the surroundings very pleasant. Will definitely visit again when passing!

We were staying at the local caravan park for a few days and stopped in here for a meal. The Black Bull staff were very attentive and welcoming and found us a suitable table to accommodate our large dog. The menu had lots to choose from and the quality of food was first class. Prices were average for eating out these days and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Driving up from Seahouses Northumberland to Edinburgh stopped off for a bite of lunch at the Black Bull. On entering the staff member was very welcoming and polite we were shown to our table given menus and ordered drinks ? a few minutes later we ordered the homemade lasagne and panko coated haddock ?? and hand cut chips ? both dishes were well presented hot and might I say absolutely delicious ?. A very memorable lunch stop.
