Nice location, nice interior and good food. One star off because after the initial welcome and order had gone really well we felt a little forgotten about. Staff seemed to disappear leaving only the person serving at the bar to also manage the tables. We will be back and hopefully this was just a slight misstep on that day. Steak pie is a little dry, could use some more gravy. Other than that the food was spot on for me and my companions.

Recently visited for dinner. The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome, and there?s a decent selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Unfortunately, the food was a real let-down frozen vegetables, chewy fish, and a greasy steak pie. For the quality of the food, it just doesn?t feel worth the price. That said, it?s still a pleasant spot for a roadside pit stop to grab a drink and stretch your legs.

The hotel is set on a busy road (A697 heading south), so the rooms on the front are very noisy from passing lorries, speeding cars and motor bikes.
The windows are single glazed which add to the character but if you're a light sleeper like myself be warned. I didn't get a good night's sleep.
You can also hear cars idling in the hotel carpark when guests are leaving and people talking...
I stopped here for one night on business via booking.com, the price was fine (about £102 including breakfast).
My room was clean & cozy (room #9).
The Wi-Fi is ok but for business it's a bit weak, so I used my data instead.
The restaurant and food are good. I made a booking on a Tuesday night but it was quiet.
I had the hot honey halloumi starter and Balmoral Chicken main. Food arrived quickly and it was tasty, fresh and hot.
The girls on reception and serving were also really friendly.
I didn't eat breakfast as I was too full from the previous nights dinner. But from what I could see, the full Scottish breakfast looked amazing.
Its a really nice hotel, restaurant and the staff are warm and welcoming but ask for a room away from the road if you can.

Just been to the carfraemill hotel for our dinner and it was such a nice place the food was brilliant and gordy was really welcoming when we walked in such a nice guy would highly recommend ........ps the pints of Gunness are top notch

This was a very pleasant stay while attending the Scottish Open. The staff were unbelievably friendly and welcoming to us for our 2 days. Gordon and his team know how to look after you. Highly recommend Balmoral Chicken - Devine. Great location to stop if travelling up and down the country.

Stopped here for a quick snack on the way back from Newcastle. Excellent bacon roll and a nice coffee at a very good price. I've passed this place many times but I will definitely be back now I've tried it.

Just been for lunch and both my husband and I ordered the steak pie which turned out to be more a black pepper pie. There was so much pepper in it our mouths were on fire and we were unable to taste anything else that was on our plates. We complained but neither the manager nor the chef had the decency to apologise but we were still charged for the worst meal we have had in this establishment. Very disappointed in lack of customer care.

We stopped in for a coffee and cake. The tables in the conservatory were very sticky, the coffee was sour, the milk for the coffee had black dots of dirt(coffee grounds?), our food came one item at a time and I had to ask for the final bit. I remembered this place as a nice place to stop, but we won?t be stopping again sadly.

I stopped at the campsite just around the corner. This is a smart place upgraded a few years ago. In need of a touch up in places but the staff are smart and tidy. I did not stay in the rooms but the ale is well kept. The Sunday lunch needs attention for the price and they put peppercorn sauce without asking and charging is a disgrace. The vegetables are sadly lacking to say the least.All I all if they want to increase the trade then address these issues, the manager quickly vanished and left the staff when I mentioned these issues. Otherwise it was ok

Amazing short break.. so nice, kind and friendly staff especially Jackie ?? bless her heart ?? she is up and about at 6am getting the breakfast tables ready and she is so genuine ? thank you all so much for a lovely room, yummy breakfast and being so friendly ?? hoping to see you all soon. Thank you Jackie for telling about the lovely walk just behind the hotel..such a beautiful location.. if you are an early riser please do explore the area you will love it. ???? xxx
