Went here for a fossils exhibit that was visiting the museum. Was out first visit here. Lovely old red brick building. Greeted at door by a lovely lady who showed us the way to the fossils upstairs. It was small but the man showing it was very friendly and knowledgeable. My 2 young sons enjoyed it, especially when they got to take a small sharks tooth home with them. We then had a look downstairs at the museums exhibits, showing Northern Irish memorabilia, old products and furniture etc, I enjoyed seeing it. My boys played with the telephones. Not a very big area but nice visit to break up the day.

Called in yesterday as Larne Motor Club were displaying a 65th Anniversary exhibition, outstanding collection of Motorsport videos, photographs, racing equipment and memorabilia. Definitely worth a visit, it is open from 10am to 4 pm until the 27th February!

We visited Larne Museum not knowing what to expect but found it disappointing. The displays however are well set out and there is some interesting reading but I was expecting a better history of the town itself. Around the town in various places there are displays telling of the origins of the town from viking settlements, not mentioned in the museum. The town boasts some fine buildings, not covered in the museum, albeit some are in virtual ruins. The hotel industry was vast for a town of this size, barely mentioned, how the town was effected by the troubles from 1969 not mentioned. There was an interesting display on war memorabilia but not a mention of those who lost their lives in the two world wars. It is in a way understandable as space in the museum is very limited, did I enjoy my visit, yes, would I go again, undecided.

The museum at Larne is small but intimate and has a well thought out display containing items and artefacts that portray Larne's industrial and social history. Everything is numbered and described for the visitor. Currently there's a special exhibition about poet, actor, musician and author. Can't say I had but his fame was back in the 1930s so not really a surprise. Interesting what they had assembled from his life and times and any community is entitled to celebrate their own sons and daughters.
