Have been here many times before and it was amazing. Went tonight and my thoughts are very different. We went in for 7pm table booked. And after an hour after ordering food still no food So decided to leave.the customer service was Appalling. They didn?t tell us we would have to wait a while on our food and we finished our juice while waiting and they didn?t come and ask if we needed another drink. Don?t think I?ll be back sorry

Shocking service from start to finish, so unprofessional it was astounding.
Half the drinks got missed or wrong thing given. Meals took well over an hour to be served which then had half the items missing - we were not told what was missing/unavailable until the plates were put down in front of us. Mushroom pasta was served without mushrooms, sent back, and then still tried to charge us for it. It was loudly announced why they're 2nd chef was not in today, with the specific (and surely confidential?) situation being stated which was not professional in the slightest. One waitress was weirdly in a proper rush to take my child's food from them when they were still eating it. Sunday roast was extremely dry for the whole table. Was very hard to get hold of staff - which should not be related to being short a chef.
Absolutely will not be back.

Was nice easy dinner out at The Stables. Service prompt and Waitress friendly and helpful. Plenty folks in doing the same. Lovely refurbishment of the pub and outside space too.

Had a really lovely meal here. The Chicken wings starter were crispy with Korean bbq sauce at the side, I like this, so I can choose how much to add, I always worry that there may be too much sauce on the wings. Chicken tenders starter were enjoyed too with a bbq sauce at the side. Steak and Ale pie was delicious, steak melted in the mouth, lovely. My son had the chicken tikka curry, he really enjoyed this, but didnt like that hs naan was cut into small triangles. A personal preference, he likes to tear his naan in his own way. Overall, lovely meal, a lovely night at The Stables. Thanks

Really enjoyed the food and the service was first class.
It was reasonably priced and the portions were spot on.
I would recommend 100% and will be going back.

Staff were tremendously friendly, and the food was of good value and quality. My only complaint would be the lack of any ale on draught (it appears they have only bottled Newcastle Brown Ale).

I took my mum here for lunch. Just totally love this place. Food is amazing. Best food ever to be honest. Staff were very attentive. The chef ranald actually came out to speak to us. What a lovely guy. Compliments to the chef. His food is out of this world. Best place ever.

Edit August 2024: unfortunately seems to have gone downhill. Food on my side not good - mashed potato tasted powdery and manufactured, chicken and leek pie was sickly and tasted strangely of fish. My friend enjoyed his meal. Restaurant no longer dog friendly but you can sit outside.
Original review: Amazing food and cheap considering the quality, menu choice, and volume of food. 3 courses for 2 people and 2 alcoholic drinks came to around £40, which is astounding considering you can get 2 courses at Frankie & Benny?s and come out of there feeling robbed.
Menu at the Stables is extensive, staff are friendly, atmosphere is good, prices are very fair, and the food is fresh, piping hot and delicious. Literally can?t fault the starter, main course or dessert. Will be back soon, hopefully.

Coeliac's avoid!
I'm absolutely shocked that this restaurant is recommended Coeliac UK restaurant.
I phoned at the weekend to book a table and to ask about their gluten free options.
The young lady I spoke to was very helpful and said that they did a range of gluten free items including a gluten free burger (yay!). However, she said if I could give her a moment she would double check with the kitchen as to what they actually had in stock and available. No problems there.
Unfortunately this is where it goes wrong. I could hear her asking the "chef" what was available and I can only describe his reaction as utterly disgraceful! I won't repeat what was said, however, it's safe to say he clearly has no respect for his job or the people he's catering for, especially if they have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition...
The young lady came back on the phone and said she was very sorry but the only thing they could offer me was a salad with some grilled chicken and some sweet chilli sauce (all in all not a terrible option but after hearing his attitude towards the gluten free request, I would NOT trust him to cook me anything!). She said that they didn't have any gluten free burger buns and that absolutely everything else on the menu contained gluten!
Obviously, it was just too much effort for this particular chef.
So so disappointing!
I totally appreciate not every establishment will have gluten free food available at all times, which is why I like to phone ahead.
Sadly, being coeliac is NOT an option and certainly not a choice I would willingly make if it wasn't for the fact it was making me very ill.
I'm sure if you don't have any dietary requirements, this is a nice place to visit but I will not be dining here as I couldn't trust that any care was taken over the preparation or cooking of my food. Sad, as they get good reviews otherwise. Such a shame the chef had such a negative attitude towards a serious medical condition...
