Never stayed at The Dougie - we live here! But we have been for meals many times in the 3 years since we moved to Langholm. The food and friendly service has always been 5*Food & drinks: Food has always been beautifully prepared and of uniformly high standard. Haggis and/or Steak with Peppercorn sauce a real treat, but the deserts too are pretty special. And always a nice ambience.

Went to vist a family member that's just moved to the town, popped in for a drink and food as it's her local, friendly, welcoming and good value for money. I had a 16oz steak with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection rare and the peppercorn sauce was just amazing. Will be back again definitely, and will be booking a room too. The service was amazing from the staff.

Great place to stay. Two brothers run this hotel and are most welcoming and friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The evening meal we had on arrival was delicious and the breakfast was wonderful. The staff are very nice and the service is great. The hotel is bigger than it looks from the outside with rooms up and down small stairs and an interesting interior. Lovely village setting and great history in the area. Walking round the village after our meal, the locals were friendly and approachable when asking for directions to the local castle ruins and even passing people in the street said hood evening to us. Would definitely stay there again.Rooms: The rooms are airy and comfortable and clean. Our rooms were at the top of the house and there were some low ceilings to negotiate but didn't let that worry us. Great amenities and snack breakfast available in the room if required.Nearby activities: There's a few shops including a minimarket and gift shops and a chemist to name a few. There's a library across the road linked to Thomas Telford and public toilets. Parking nearby with a disc from the hotel. River with short walking distance.Walkability: Nice village to walk round, two bridges over the river. Walk along river and then to castle ruins into a small wooded area and back onto the bridge to main street.Food & drinks: The meals and breakfast offered by The Douglas Hotel are outstanding. The menu's are very good but can't prepare you for the presentation and deliciousness of the meals . We expected good food but this was way above.

Stayed at campsite nearby and came for a drink. Very welcoming, the owner is super friendly and accommodating. Plus the girl working behind the bar is lovely. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I stayed here for a few days while I was visiting family who stay in the town, and some are further from the borders. Had a fantastic courtesy call 48hrs before I arrived, asking if I had a preference to a room type (double or twin) and if I would have an ETA. Explained I would be travelling from South Wales, so aimed to be there around lunchtime. It was also explained that, on the evening I arrived the kitchen would be closed for dinner, but I could be booked into another venue within a 2-min walk of their property. When I checked in I was greeted by whom I assume is the owner, shown to my room and given the keys. The room was immaculate, even though I booked without breakfast, there were individual porridge portions and breakfast cereal bars left in my room, I happened to bump into a member of staff on my first morning, who offered to service my room. However I politely declined. I did pop into the bar area one evening, to find it relatively busy with local Langholm folk playing pool, I was made to feel extremely welcome, by the young boy working the bar & also by the locals. During my whole stay, I cannot find anything to complain about. Having worked in hospitality for double figures of years, I have never come across such fantastic hospitality and customer service! I would highly recommend staying at The Douglas.

We stayed here with friends early June. We had the best stay and can?t speak highly enough of this Hotel. Great rooms and great service and wonderful breakfast each morning. Rob was very welcoming. Recommend this Hotel. Handy location in town and parking over the road.

We had booked a table. On arrival, we were seated and drinks delivered quickly. The food, when it eventually arrived, was good. Unfortunately, the service was very poor, the lighting so bad we had to tip the menus towards the window to read and decor very dour. We had to assume that there are no desserts or coffee on offer as we waited 10mins for someone to appear and ask if we wanted something else. As this didn?t happen , we had to go to request the bill , and even then, no one came to take the payment. We ended up having to go to the main bar to pay , not an issue but the information would have been useful. Unfortunately the good food did not out way the poor service and decor so we won?t be returning.

Brilliant hotel, absolutely loved it. Myself and my husband stayed here over a weekend whilst attending a local event at Samye Ling. This is a lovely small family run hotel and restaurant/pub. Our room was really comfy and spotlessly clean. I travel frequently for work and this was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. We ate both nights in the restaurant, would highly recommend. Great value for money and delicious food. The staff and owners are all very friendly and welcoming, we were lucky enough to have good weather so we sat outside in the beer garden which was lovely, beautiful plants and really well looked after. We would highly recommend and will be staying here for sure in the future

Service par excellence-lovely owner who was so kind in helping us with our bags and with a warm welcome, and a chef who cooked us a great pizza when we arrived late and restaurant was closing Very clean in rooms and hotel, and a nice comfy bed

Dont attempt to visit the bar if you are a woman alone. We called in, went into the back yard which is laughingly described as a beer garden, more like a back yard, concrete, not a plant in sight. Oh well, never mind, wanted a drink and a snack, so I went into the small bar. No staff in sight and the 4 or 5 local men in the bar made it clear that, I, as a middle aged woman, shouldnt be allowed in a bar, shock horror, by myself. No one spoke to me, not even to say someone would be around soon, I was, frankly, stared at, as if they had never seen a woman out by herself (I wasnt, I did have a husband sat outside, you know), so we walked out, no one came to see what we wanted at all. For the first time, in many years, I actually felt worried for my safety, thank goodness I am no longer a slip of a girl!!! I havent felt like this since the 1970's. Should I point out that we women have had the vote for 100 years, we dont have to sit in the kitchen any more. May have been different if we had been stopping in the hotel. I have to say, the residents lounge looked nice, but the actual bar, no way.
