Booked a three night stay in this hotel situated in what is a unique and beautiful location by the River Clyde. Our experience was disappointing. It is being run by the New Lanark Mill Trust who, in my opinion, should stick with running the superb museum and lease the hotel to an experienced operator. Overall, the interior of the building is in dire need investment. The decoration and fittings in the public areas are shabby and the cleanliness well below a minimum acceptable standard. Both the restaurant and the bar areas are soulless and more akin to a 1970's transport cafe. Breakfast was awful, on one day only I ordered full Scottish, most of it was deep fried and as for the boiled mushrooms, l've never seen anything so small. We did not fair any better with the so called continental breakfast buffet, the choice was limited. I guess the continental bit was the frozen croissants and danish pastries. The filter coffee tasted dreadful. Why can't they invest in a machine that provides ground coffee options.
Service was slow and inconsistent. On one day we had to leave the table to attract attention of staff so as we could place a cooked food option.
We booked a table for dinner on our first night. The menu choice was basic, no salad option and a very limited vegetarian choice. I ordered the risotto with chorizo special only to be informed 5 minutes later that, as the chef was not happy with the dish, it had been taken off the menu, eh?? Fawlty Towers sprung to mind! On the whole staff were friendly although at times appearing a bit stressed, very few smiles. We ate out for the remainder of our stay, what a missed opportunity for the hotel.
The exterior view from the room was lovely. As for the interior view it wasn't so lovely.
The cleaning standard was poor, stained walls, dirty carpet and skirting and thick dust on the TV surround. Room decoration was tired, bare walls no art, so cold and uninviting. My wife enjoyed the spa experience and was complimentary of the member of staff.
In summary, for the sum paid versus our experience our stay did not represent value for money. The hotel is at best operating at a budget level, yet it is pitching its offer at 4 star level. In the hospitality industry reputation is everything. The Trust need to consider their reputation in running a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside a hotel operation that is falling well short of guest expectations. I note the hotel has many positive reviews and that's fine. My review is an honest assessment of our experience during our stay. Suffice to say, we wont be back.

Absolutely love this place, the buildings and the area are amazing, staff are all friendly food was decent the rooms are great with the view of the River Clyde although could do with a little tlc. My only gripe I have is they advertise all their suites with certain features but it turns out only one of them has all the features but I couldn't see how you can choose which suite you get. Hasn't put me off will go again.

arrived for a weeks stay and I genuinely couldn't be happier.
Every single member of staff was so helpful and made us feel so welcomed.
The first night we had food within the restaurant and I was blown away with how tasty the food was
The fish and chips was so tasty and the pudding was just as tasty

Great little find. Historical spot with activities around. Great spa facilities. Rooms were spacious and have some river view rooms. Restraunt was busy but staff were great. Breakfast had a great choice and was cooked well.

Amazing hotel!!! We recently travelled from London and stayed here for a one night spa break. On the first day, our friend fell ill and had to be taken to hospital. I cannot praise the staff for being so kind, supportive and helpful to us during this time. I have never been to any establishment where the staff cared so much. We naturally had to re-jig some of our plans and the staff were incredibly accommodating with our requests. Everybody who works there deserves a massive raise. Aside from the staff, the rooms were pristine, beds comfy, lovely view from the room with the sound of the flowing river. Food was absolutely delicious. The spa was pristine and as an avid gym goer I could not believe the amount of gym equipment they had!

The buildings of New Lanark are full of architectural history.. the hotel has been refurbished since my last visit and very impressive.
We stayed in Waterhouse 3. Extremely large living area. Kitchen Hallway and has a large porch entrance for boots coats etc
Bedrooms are large, they are being updated. Beautiful to sleep next to the river which is just outside.
Fantastic location to visit Edinburgh/ Glasgow and still in the countryside.

Nice rooms . View overlooking the River.
May appear to be stark from the outside but a different ball game inside. Worth a look though.

We have used my hotel break many times, but this time I feel I need to leave a review about our stay at Lanark mill hotel.
It?s hard to imagine what it would have been like dreds of years ago when it was a fully working cotton mill.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and well maintained, it?s clean, airy and bright inside with breathtaking views over the river Clyde and looking over to an enchanted and tranquil forest.
Our room was more than we expected, large windows, large space and very spacious beds. The mini fridge was a wonderful addition too. After we settled in we went off to take advantage of the spa which was also included, yet again faultless and came away feeling relaxed and refreshed.
We had booked up on the Dinner, bed and breakfast deal, tried for many years but it was always fully booked whenever we tried, but this time we hit lucky, we booked our evening meal for 20:30, we both had a starter and main meal, which again was faultless and bloody gorgeous as was breakfast which was full Scottish breakfast, all very well presented.
Before our journey back to Newcastle we had to explore the cotton mill museum and the other surrounding heritage buildings, it was very interesting and has fantastic history and legacy behind it.
I couldn?t finish this review without mentioning the staff , especially at Lanark Mill Hotel, from setting foot in there we where treat with respect and made to feel special, All the staff are wonderful and go above and beyond to make your stay is the best, we never return to a place we have been but we definitely will be going back to this wonderful little Scottish gem

Lovely location and the walk along the river was beautiful in autumn. Room was lovely, just wish we had more time here to enjoy it. We didn't have a car so had to get a taxi which took a while to arrive but we got it in the end.
