As a contractor I have my accommodation booked for me, what can I say. This is the perfect place for me. I arrived latish (ferry schedules) Iain welcomed me and took me to my room (the last one left) a little smaller than I am used to but it had everything I needed. Free Wi-Fi and the usual commodities. Bonus was that when I was asked if I wanted breakfast in the morning, I had to decline as my work started before the kitchen opened. Woke up the next day and there was a packed lunch left out for me and every morning I was there. Nice homely bar and the evening meal was just what I needed. I'll ask for this place again if I have to work on Islay again.

This is a really cool pub. It was really warm and "homey" with the music and the fire. Got a nice beer and they let me sample one I've never heard of before. The beer was cold and awesome.I got the fish and chips which was super fresh and mouth watering awesomeness. My wife got a burger to split with my daughter and it was good as well.I liked the warm atmosphere that they have here and could see why it has been open for so long. Plus gotta love a urinal troughs. It is also dog and kid friendly.

Just spent seven nights with a work colleague while carring out maintenance at a nearby distillery. We were made most welcome by the owners and staff. Marion, Ian and staff were a hive of local information and help which was greatly appreciated. The selection and quality of food was excellent.Over the week we were well fed and entertained and will certainly return be it work or pleasure.

Just taking the ferry out, stopped in at the store, but limited selection (not surprising for the location). Nice grounds for waiting for ferry though. Enjoy it!

EDIT: I am afraid madam, that you are falsely acusing me of using card. My companion and I thrive to use cash, to help small independent businesses like yourself avoid the extra charges that you will get with the card payments.I have attached the receipt, to prove we used to cash.Furthermore, when you have customers in at a table are they allowed more than 4 items of sauce? It isn't your place to judge how much sauce someone takes with there meal. Do you watch over them to make sure...A suggestion for you would to maybe put up a sign informing the clientele that there is a cap on the sauce. They might be silly, like me,and think they can help themselves.Look forward to hearing back from you!Warm regardsArchie :)22/08/2023As my colleague and I waited on the boat for the mainland. We decided to purchase a take away burger from the restaurant. We waited in the Lounge for 10-15 minutes, without being acknowledged and then got told to move to the bar to place an order. We went and had to wait another 5 minutes before getting our order. We went for 2 cheeseburger suppers. £20. Fairly reasonable. We came back to pick it up, the food was prepared very quickly which was a bonus.I then went to select 4 small sachets of Tomato sauce (2 each), the woman behind the counter stared at me like I was a monster. And snarkly said 1 is allowed not 4 that should be at least £1.I didn't realise Heinz Tomato Sauce was in ration on Islay, if I realised I would've had mayonnaise instead :)Chips were dynamite. Social skills were not. After putting £20 in your till I would like some sauce. Thanks

Planned to get some food as we came off of Jura and waited for the Ferry to Scotland. Made the conscious decision to have food here rather than risk the chance of eating on Jura and getting stuck. Unfortunately we were told they did not start serving good until 5:45pm despite advertising fresh local food outside on a board. Being next to a port that is busy you would think they would be serving move throughout the day. Understand that's the hours they serve but very disappointed.

We had planned to eat dinner here before our 6pm ferry back to the mainland having spotted the ?Fresh Local Seafood? sign outside when we headed to Jura earlier that afternoon.Unfortunately, on arrival, we discovered no meals are served until 5.45pm / 6pm - I wish the sign had been clearer as it suggested the local seafood was available all day and when checking the website, it states ?all day meals? as well as hot snacks outside of main meal times so we had planned our journey back from Jura to time in with eating here! It?s a shame there?s no food facilities at a port where people are waiting during the afternoon, I really liked the sound of langoustines and scallops too!

Had dinner here the night before catching the ferry home - it's pretty much the only place to eat at the port - and tbh, wasn't expecting much. The place needs a bit of work done and is quite old and faded but it just shows, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover as the food was AMAZING! Genuinely one of the best meals we had during our week on Islay - lovely fresh and crisp battered fish, delicious chips, home-made tartare sauce and a really tasty salad. My husband had the venison burger which looked and tasted amazing. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was obviously all home-made and freshly prepared. It was excellent. I feel for the owners as business must be tough in such a quiet spot but I can highly recommend stopping off here for food before or after a ferry trip.

Popped into the hotel for a quick bite to eat. No member of staff due to them doing what seemed like 4 jobs that day (shop, petrol, bar, waiting on). After 10-15 mins they arrived and certainly not a negative of them, she was very helpful but clearly not enough pairs of hands. The pub/bar itself is a "proper pub", low ceilings and full of everything you can imagine including many many bottles of whisky. We opted for a starter each as a light lunch, the food was very nice and quick to come out of the kitchen.I would call in again, in the hope of a couple more staff and a more warm welcome/visit.

Lovely pub with very welcoming hosts. They prepared a vegetarian meal especially for us. The bar area is dog friendly.

Great bar and hotel. Enjoyed a meal and drinks watching the six nations with very friendly bar staff and owners. Food and drink was great and very reasonably priced. Room was comfortable, clean and warm!

We had dinner here before we got on the ferry to Kennacraig. The feeling you get when you step into the restaurant is that of the 60's. I loved it. The food was good for a friendly price. The staff was also very friendly and helpfull.

Five stars as you get what you pay for. Which is 400-year-old family run hotel on the shore of an island on the Hebrides. If your idea of contentment is a travel lodge please look further. Character & panache aplenty. The full Scottish breakfast will set you up for the day and I kid you not I?ve seen houses built of bricks thinner than the square sausage they serve ? bravo

Not sure what the 1 star reviewers are expecting. The hotel has the right atmosphere. Marion is the perfect host to have a fun evening with. The food was great. If you're expecting a presidential suite and white tablecloths, you might be really disappointed. I can only recommend to others and I would be sorry if I never met Marion again.
