I return to Scotland almost every year for two weeks since 2004. In these years, I have visited many wonderful places all over Scotland including islands like Sky, The Orkneys or Mull.I have experienced the hospitality and openness of many Scottish people, staying in B&Bs or small hotels. I experienced spontaneous friendly contacts and chats on my hikes or visiting other places, also around my beloved Highlands. This time I decided to stay in the town of Inverurie: Being a member of the National Trust for Scotland, I saw Inverurie as a strategic position to visit various properties like castles or gardens under the care of the National Trust for Scotland. So I picked The Sidings for my base this time: it?s an historic building and the fotos I saw on their website as well as the information to The Sidings appealed to me.When I arrived in the evening I was warmly welcomed by Chris, the manager of The Sidings. When Chris showed me around, my first impression was how absolutely clean and tidy The Sidings presented itself! My room was spotless and so was the en-suite.The large lounge is very comfortable with its armchairs and the respective lounge tables, with plenty of natural light, with fotos of times gone on its walls. In the evenings guests enjoyed to watch TV, either cricket or football in the lounge, I myself enjoyed the afternoons reading here. The breakfast area wasn?t just the breakfast area: you could even cook your own meals! And all the pots and pans and whatever you need to cook yourself a meal was provided by The Sidings. No need to wash up, just into the dishwasher. Basically every night when people came back from work, somebody was cooking dinner. Since I found a fabulous Thai takeaway called Oriental Wok, I chose not to cook but to enjoy my favourite Thai food back at The Sidings. At Breakfast I found all sorts of variety of foods, fruits, breads, juices, serials to name just a few. Not to forget freshly brewed coffee and plenty of teas to choose from!I was really sorry to leave The Sidings after my two weeks vacation in my second home, Scotland, and especially its Highlands. For me Chris is a wonderful host and the soul of The Sidings. I, for my part, intend to return to the The 5 ?????????? Sidings next year. I?ll check if there will be a spot for me here mid September - I hope so.See ya next year Chris ?Juergen
