Beautiful building and most staff were charming but the barman was actively unpleasant. Surly, rude and extremely unprofessional. He should not be in any kind of customer facing role

All fur coat and no knickers. Beautiful lobby but extremely shabby rooms and corridors, run down lift, terrible views, unfriendly staff.
No parking (unless you are the first 9 guests) need to walk 5 mins with your bags etc..and pay 9 pounds for the privilege
Massively overpriced. Location is handy as its walking distance to bars and restraunts but as its so central it is also a little rough, during our stay people were sitting drunk on the step swigging vodka. Drug dealing around the corner, right beside train station so probably.to be expected..
Poor amenities restraunt closed at 8 30 pm! Tea tray and toiletries are very low budget.
Overall drab and disappointing... avoid

Inverness itself a good day trip.
TripAdvisor has this hotel at 4 star with minimal reviews which should have been the first red flag but we thought maybe people were being harsh because it is an older hotel. However they were right. The staff is cold and distant. This place is not worth the almost £155+ for the stay.

Ancient and boutique hotel located in the city center of Inverness in just steps from train station. Friendly staff and warm welcome and check-out. Quiet rooms with big area.

Smelly hot room, cheap bedding, rundown, gross carpet. Uninterested check in staff. Just awful. The most expensive bad hotel ever.

An old hotel but it?s refurbished. Spacious room and bathroom. The railway station is just right beside it. From the windows can see the station. The soundproof is fantastic. Didn?t hear any train sound. The room is quite warm. Luckily a fan is provided. It?s walking distance to shopping area and restaurants.

The location of the Royal Highland Hotel is excellent : it?s right next to the railway station, making it very convenient and easily accessible.
However, our experience was a bit disappointing given the warm weather and lack of basic facilities. During our stay, it was 27°C and there was no fan or AC in the room. The room felt uncomfortably warm to get a good night rest.
There was also no luggage stand or designated space for our bags, so we had to leave them on the floor. The bathroom design was awkward - the tap was positioned too close to the basin, making it difficult to even fill a cup. The shower nozzle didn?t allow for a proper water flow, which made showering a bit frustrating.
Breakfast was included in our booking and consisted of toast, croissants, a selection of salamis, and cheese. Surprisingly, no eggs were offered during our breakfast.
Overall, while the location is great, the facilities and comfort left much to be desired.

Just OK 3 star hotel. Right next to the train station, so location was convenient. The room was small and outdated.

The hotel certainly benefits from an excellent location and commendable service, though its age and some missing modern amenities were noticeable.
The room I stayed in was perfectly adequate for my needs in terms of basic comfort. However, the lack of air conditioning meant relying solely on a fan, which wasn't always enough to ensure optimal coolness. Additionally, in the bathroom, I noted the absence of a bidet spray (or jet spray), a feature I, and many other travellers, find to be a convenient addition for personal hygiene.
It's clear that the Royal Highlands Hotel is an older establishment. While it possesses a certain classic charm, some areas are definitely showing their age and would benefit significantly from a comprehensive update or renovation to bring them more in line with contemporary standards.
On the positive side, the hotel's location is truly fantastic. It puts you right in the heart of Inverness, offering easy access to the city's main attractions, shops, and dining options, which was incredibly convenient. Furthermore, the staff were consistently polite, helpful, and efficient throughout my stay, demonstrating a strong commitment to good service despite the hotel's more traditional facilities.
While there are clear areas for improvement regarding modernization and amenities like air conditioning and bidet sprays, the superb location and dedicated staff significantly contributed to a satisfactory stay. A renovation would undoubtedly unlock the full potential of this centrally located hotel.

Right next to train station with helpful staff, but rooms need a little maintenance to work acceptably.

The Royal Highland has a lot of potential but is at least 20 years past due for renovation. Like a previous review said, I also got stuck in the elevator which wound bounce between floors but the doors wouldn?t open. Beds are comfortable, but the rooms are just worn out. Paint peeling everywhere, stained walls, holes in the wallpaper, and exposed rusty edges in the bathroom. No housekeeping service was disappointing. The location is ideal, but everything else was sub-par.

Rooms and facilities are a little run down/dated, decent for the state they?re in but not on the same standard as a nicer chain hotel. The breakfast comes with two options, the reasonable priced one is just a sad cold breakfast buffet and the hot breakfast is more than double and only cook to order. The male agent that works mid shift is rude and at the very least did a poor job explaining things or providing assistance when requested if it wasn?t malicious. When the manager on duty was politely and respectfully approached about this in the morning she was extremely dismissive and spoke over me and gave a non apology towards the end of the conversation. We were told house keeping was upon request yet house keeping entered our room daily but also wouldn?t remove trash until we moved it outside the room. The location is fantastic as it?s very central, and close to lots of food and transportation options, but I wouldn?t recommend it outside that.

Landmark Hotel next to the Railway station in Inverness. Heavy touch of the grand age of travel, with a few bumps and bruises on details. One lift (a museum piece), occasional windows fail to open, no air conditioning. WiFi function improved throughout. Food good. Staff excellent. Interesting modern art on grand Central staircase. Yup, happy to stay there, business or pleasure. Will certainly do so again!
