We stayed at The George in May, 2023. Two years later, we are still talking about how much we loved it. The unique rooms, the charming architecture, the excellent wait staff, the lovely fires in the bar, the superb food, and the beautiful location all combined to make this one of our all time favorite places to stay in the UK. I just learned that the hotel is for sale. I truly hope the new owners will retain the charm of this hotel, and not turn it into a modern upscale place devoid of history and charm.

I can?t fault the hotel, great overnight stay. Staff helpful and friendly.
The food. Well. Not worth the money. We had dinner and I ordered the langoustine cocktail at the cost of £14 for that £14 I got 4 bits of langoustine, half a cherry tomato that was not fresh it was squishy and a bowl full of iceberg lettuce. If I had ordered the starter of langoustines at £10 would have been better value as I paid and extra £4 for some shreds of lettuce and half a squishy cherry tomato.
My main meal came with chips, not real chips but frozen, it was obviously the end of the packet as it was bits of chips. My sister is gluten free, not a great choice on the menu for her.

Visited the George on Friday the 3rd of January 2025 with family from America. Disappointed was an understatement, the wait staff were however very good and tried to make us happy but unfortunately the food was shocking. My husband and mother had different paninis, both had very little filling and the chicken club panini had a few trips of chicken and nothing else. My Cullen Skink soup was horrible, it had a unknown green liquid squirted on top and was full of very little but a few bits of fish, very under cooked potatoes and heaving with long bits of leek, so much so that half way through I had to stop trying to find the fish and just give up. I had also ordered crusty bread with olive oil and vinaigrette, I instead got a small bit of crusty bread, a small bit of uncrusty brown bread and two pieces of garlic toast. We ordered two fish and chips which came out soaked in oil making us think that the old was not hot enough when cooking started. This meal was not cheap and when we commented on the paninis we were not offered any discount to mirror the actual meal that had been given. I will not be going back to the George which makes me very sad as the standard has been dropping for a while but we keep hoping things will change to reflect the amazing establishment of years gone by.

First time visiting inverary and after me and family and nelly my dog strolled around the beautiful wee town we walked into this cosy rustic and warmly inviting hotel, staff were great and super friendly especially with nelly, even got her a bowl of sausages and water, the roaring fire was much needed after being out in the rain.3 out of 4 of us ordered the steak pie and it it the best steak pie ever,my son even mentioned he'd drive here again just for that, a must for people visiting inverary,we will definitely be back.X

The people who work there are lovely but the hotel itself feels shabby. We booked a higher level room that was large (appreciated) but the furniture was uncomfortable and not really conducive to hanging out. We had trouble with the shower- at one point just turned off and then when it came on again difficult to adjust the temp. The robes provided were plush and comfortable as were the towels. Breakfast was ok

Stopped here for a beer and whisky before heading off to the island of Islay. Cute little pub that's part of the George Hotel.

My family and I have been coming here for years. It is historical and beautiful. There is always an amazing lunch and dinner menu. Plus, the best selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. My two year old loves coming here too. Brillant kids menu. Dogs are also allowed. It isn't a trip to Inveraray without coming to The George. One day, I would love to stay the night here. The rooms look absolutely gorgeous.Food & drinks: Amazing food and drink selection.

I wish I could give 10 stars for the location and the staff at this incredible family run Pub. Don't let the "Family Run" mislead you this is a serious business. We were there on a Saturday night, so much fun. Amazing live music from Mic Clark, both bars were packed but no issue getting drinks due the number and professionalism of the staff. The rooms are extremely impressive and the bathrooms amazed me - Walk in shower and Jacuzzi tub in our room. Food was Excellent as well.

Probably the best hotel in Scotland, we've stayed at the George on several occasions and it never disappoints. Busy Saturday night with live music by the B33's in the bar. The food is always good and the staff extremely hard working, special mention must go to Sean in the restaurant, the guy is brilliant, super funny and chats to everyone, makes all the guests feel welcome. If your up in the Argyle area make sure you stop here for a dram and to soak in the local hospitality ??Rooms: Each room has a different themeWalkability: Within 50mtrs walk of the town and 10 minutes of the CastleFood & drinks: Food is brilliant and uses all local providers

We were trapped in Inveraray and this was a highlight of that disaster. They reduced our room rate gave us an extraordinary room, The Library, complete with jet Bath. Breakfast was tasty and a great selection. Brilliant location next to theLoch with the sounds of bagpipes floating in from theLoch.
