Brilliant place to stop. Cracking food, at a fantastic price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities were accessible extremely clean and had gender neutral options as well.Outdoor seating has a bit of wind but beautiful view, cafe has dog bowls and the venue takes cash and card

There is plenty of info to see here and physical items , my children also fell in love with the museums interactive game and Ai room, it really is interactive and informative about various parts of history and bringing the museum to life too , it really helped my children to visualise it all and really enjoyed it.The gallery upstairs was about Beatrice the oil rig , which was interesting, kids listened to the sound booth and headsets. And my daughter loved her cake in the river cafe here too.

I paid £4 for entrance to this museum and it is well worth a visit. I particularly enjoyed the film charting the history and traditions of Helmsdale and the surrounding area. I also liked the various displays and interesting local history. There is a small shop selling various books and some souvenirs. There is also a cafe which I didn't visit as it was nearly closing time.

Timespan is a really neat learning centre. Although not a large site it has very good instructive displays and films to try and explain the lives of the people of the village and area. Today, in comfort, we can see and admire the beautiful coast of East Scotland. But life was much, much harder in the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s and through Timespan I had an insight into how people made a living. For example: the Herring Girls worked long hours gutting and salting fish and travelled miles throughout the seasons on foot (as far south as East Anglia).Penny on reception is very happy to help explain what is available and to direct visitors. The café is plain but none the worse for it. The range of food, including fabulous crepes, is good value. The café staff are engaging.

Recently attended an event based on the History of the people of Helmsdale. This included the Railway Operating System, layout of the town and photographic /film footage of the Helmsdale Castle being taken down. There was also footage of Wick Barell production which seemed hard graft by these men. Such a talent and completely intriging. It was lovely being involved and to take part in events being reflected by the folks of Helmsdale, including our very own Mary Findlay. Great memories to share. Thanks to everyone for sharing your History and memories with us.

Situated in the wonderful Timespan local museum, Helmsdale we had the most wonderful lunch today. With a Caribbean theme we had the most fantastic special of smoked haddock with accompaniments. Just amazing Thank you. Beautiful setting also by the river. Lovely staff too. Wish I was there for the Friday night Caribbean evenings!

Well worth the wait. Guy was on his own and so busy, still received great service with a smile. Food was fresh and delicious! We'll definitely be back.

Timespan Riverside Restaurant.Caribbean restaurant inside Timespan.Paulo and his team make you welcome. I have rarely seen people this genuinely happy at work. The food and service are outstanding. This is our favourite place for lunch when we?re in the village. My choice was: rice bowl, ram bam lamb, mango mayo, onions. An exceptional lunch at a good price. Thanks Paulo, I will be back.

Museum was fine but the cafe didn't appear to be able to cope with the numbers wanting lunch. We had a 3/4 hour delay for a soup and a mac and cheese.

The café was closed upon arrival which was of great disappointment to us. Despite the initial sadness this caused, we gave the museum a go. It consists of two small exhibition spaces and a short film giving a history of the Highland clearances. As a school teacher working under the tyranny of Ofsted I derived mild amusement from the school inspection report on display from the 1800s. Worth the small entry fee if you're into your history.
