I had the pleasure of visiting Navidale House at the start of November just before the end of season closure, and was lucky enough to stay in the Sandpiper Suite.Spacious room, comfy bed, with a luxurious freestanding roll top bath (didn't want to get out), and woke up to an amazing sea view.Having read some great reviews about the breakfast on offer, I had high expectations, and Darren's culinary skills didn't disappoint!A gem of a hotel, undertaking further refurbishments over the coming winter months. Would highly recommend!

We stayed one night in mid-September as we were driving along the NC500. Our room overlooked the parking lot, offering a view of the cliffs and sea in the distance. The bedrooms have been recently updated with new carpeting and paint. The bed was very comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was a bit outdated, but everything worked just fine. Plenty of hot water, and included shampoo, conditioner and body wash. No washcloths, and the towels were a bit small, but did the job. A hairdryer was available in the room as well as a hostess tray featuring coffee/tea, etc. Wi-fi was strong with no issues. The new owners were very friendly, and we were welcomed as if we were special guests. A fully stocked bar on the ground floor is manned in the evenings for guests wishing to partake of a drink. There is a large outside lawn with seating for warmer days. A path along the back ends with a lovely view of the North Sea and a bench to sit upon while enjoying it.Breakfast was not included in our room rate, but we chose to pay extra for the convenience. It is served in a large, bright room, with tables next to very large windows that overlook the lawn leading to the sea. There were several hot options to choose from in addition to yogurt, pastries and cereals. There was no fresh fruit. The waitress was quite pleasant and even checked on a food allergy for me to be certain that my choice was safe. This hotel is in a convenient location, and offers the charm of a historic building with modern room amenities. The views along the sea are breathtaking. It is located just a few minutes from Helmsdale by car, and probably could be walking distance, although hiking back uphill after a meal might be a bit taxing.

We loved the views from the hotel and the garden where we sat out with a cup of tea in sunshine. The staff we met were very friendly and welcomed our wee dog. The hotel bedrooms have been nicely refurbished and modernised. There is an ongoing program for updating bathrooms and public rooms. However, everything is functioning well and we were very comfortable. No evening meals were available at the time we visited but breakfast was good, hot and served promptly.

An excellent place for an overnight stop on the way to Orkney. Comfortable bed, warm and well appointed room and lovely view! We all enjoyed our breakfast and gluten free bread and non dairy milk were available. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and we would certainly recommend this hotel to friends.

We walked into the smell of the woodfire and one of the friendliest welcomes of our trip. The owners are absolutely lovely and while the place is being updated, you wouldn't know it from how clean and well kept the place is. Our dog, Archie, had a real fuss made of him. Shame there is no evening meals, as it would have been lovely to have relaxed in the stunning setting of the hotel. But a recommendation of a local dog friendly restaurant 'Thyme and Plaice' gave us a chance for a walk and a delicious meal. We enjoyed a few drinks back at the cozy bar (have your mind blown by the openfire with a window above it!) before a really comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was really tasty and we debated booking an extra night because of how much we were enjoying ourselves. We are planning to return next year with some family.

We were recommended to stay here by our daughters and they made an excellent choice for us. We were looking for a night on our way back home from two weeks on Orkney and it made the perfect finish to our holiday. The warm welcome, the windows open in the room on arrival making it feel so fresh, the very comfortable bed, and the excellent choice at breakfast all freshly cooked. Add in the views and what more could you want? Thank you very much.

Stunning place: beautifully restored old building set within a sea-facing garden; luxurious, tastefully decorated room with a big bath and an en-suite shower room. Vegan breakfast options available. Peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Fully recommend.
