The Christmas lunch was just pathetic! Waited for 45 minutes to be sitted and the food was not equivalent to its cost.

Sunday LunchHaving returned to Greywalls for the first time since Covid for Sunday Lunch I must in all honesty advise you to avoid this venue which has lost all its wonderful and unique charm and service.I shall detail our experience of Sunday 17th December 2023.Firstly. We were shown into the restaurant and our coats ended up on the back of our chairs Not Hung Up or removed by the waiters.Secondly. There were only seven customers spread over three tables including us in the restaurant. There were three waiters and a wine waiter in attendance.Thirdly. The starter arrived which was fine but there was no butter with the bread and had to be asked for!Fourthly. The main of roast beef arrived we asked for one on the rare side and the other well done full spectrum the beef was a tough as old boots the one and only roast potato was raw in the middle, the carrots were soggy and the broccoli was beyond description by this time there was only five of us in the restaurant and I had to ask for my wine half way through the main course they had forgotten about me unbelievable given that there was a wine waiter and I was the only person in the restaurant drinking wine.Fifthly. The sweet arrived with the wrong flavour of ice cream and no fork for the sticky toffee pudding just a spoon.THIS MEAL COST £150.00 for two people. For a restaurant to associate its self with the Roux Brothers, I certainly RUE?D the day I revisited Greywalls Hotel. The service was shocking the waiters spent all their time in the room to the rear talking. It gives me No pleasure to have to write this review for what use to be a Wonderful establish. We would have complained to the Manager but all the staff disappeared once we had paid the bill. We were left to retrieve our coats ourselves.SUCH A WASTE.Food & drinks: Poor

I think I went for afternoon tea on an ?off day? as I had looked forward to taking my family there as a Christmas treat. The hotel is beautiful, yet let down by staff who showed a lack of passion or sense of urgency in serving or explaining the afternoon tea. The hotel and lounge were beautiful, yet we were shown into an anti room that was dull, dim and within earshot of the toilet flushing. The afternoon tea itself was ok - but nothing amazing. I seem to be one of a minority that is not impressed a hence I think this was the staff and hotels off day.

I booked afternoon tea and it was truly original and wonderful. Very high quality service, truly 5 star food, compliments to the chef. The environment is truly relaxing. Experience of times gone by....

We stayed at the Colonel's house for five nights as a group of eight golfers. Greywall's itself is a beautiful manor house with lovely grounds. The service was good but the Colonel's house is long overdue for a major remodel. The furniture, bathrooms and kitchen are in really bad shape.

Greywalls is one of the Great Small Hotels in Scotland. Very close to historic golfing you will have a top flight experience.

We have had a lovely return visit. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive to come back after reading some of the recent reviews but I yet again Greywalls did not disappoint. We have had another fantastic stay. We had our favourite room 5, staff is warm, personal and welcoming and recognised as return guests which was a nice touch. We enjoyed the lounge menu for dinner which was just perfect. Such a relaxing stay. Booking to come back for cozy winter stay as we speak!

We were so looking forward to afternoon tea but was dissapointed in the service or should i say lack of it.We were shown into the room and the musty smell was very prominent because of all the old books on the shelves. When the food arrived it was 3 very small sandwiches and the next layer was 4 cake slices comprising of fruit cake and victoria sandwich. The next layer had small cakes which were lovely but tiny plus 2 small scones cream and jam .I later asked if i could have a box to take remaining items home, after about 20 mins i was handed a box and had to pack items , other places take items away and pack them ready when you leave. Not impressed with the customer service and wont be returning, this was a special occasion and was spoilt . There were no savery items just 2 plates of sweet items and one small pot of tea no top up offered either.

Had a wonderful overnight at Greywalls with my other half. A lovely warm welcome from the reception team and a delicious meal that evening in Chez Roux. The hotel has a great character, amplified by the great team behind it. Our room was spacious and bright and we both had a peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast the next morning was also wonderful and set us up nicely for the journey home. Can't wait to book again!

This hotel is terribly overrated and the negative reviews on here are, unfortunately, very accurate. We traveled to the Gullane area on a recent couples golf trip which included playing the famed Murifield golf course, which is next door to the hotel. We expected our 2-night stay at Greywalls to be the highlight of our 10-day trip to Scotland but it was actually the worst aspect of our trip. Our dear friends with whom we were traveling stayed at Greywalls over ten years ago, had a great experience and have been talking about returning. They wanted us to experience it with them as they had loved it so much. We were all disappointed. The comments regarding the unfriendly staff are accurate. They were cold and seemingly disinterested in us as guests. Other guests seem to have experienced the same thing based on discussions we had with them. The grounds are beautiful to be sure, but the hotel?s operation was very poor. We had looked forward to what we hoped would be a very exquisite dining experience in the hotel at Chez Roux, but it was a disappointment. The atmosphere, service and food did not live up to expectations. This resort is clearly resting on its laurels and its history. For years, it was run by the family that owned it for many years, but the main member of the family died a few years back and the hotel is now managed by ICMI, a hotel management consultancy firm which seems to be getting all it can get out of the hotel without proper investment or training of staff on what is expected a hotel of this caliber. A property can only last so long on its history and laurels. Unless substantial changes are made to improve every aspect of this operation, the hotel will eventually suffer. The whole stay was a disappointment.

A very elegant hotel that feels more like a special country home than a hotel. It's filled with history and antiques that reflect the past golf events. We were invited for afternoon tea which was really nice. The staff were friendly and professional albeit a bit slow. The atmosphere is very calm and quiet, perhaps a bit too much as there was no one at the entrance to welcome you which I found a bit odd. They have beautiful well looked after gardens which I recommend you have a look around. I'm giving 4 stars because there wasn't anything that stood out for afternoon tea and our expectations were high given the leading luxury hotel goal of this place. At this level, I would expect the afternoon tea items to be described, drinks and food to be timed and not have to get up to look for someone to ask for more tea. I would reconsider giving 5 stars in a future visit.

We had a tasty afternoon tea in a small room overlooking lovely gardens that we explored later in the afternoon. It's a lovely older property full of character. Staff looked after us well & as the weather improved, we were able to sit outside with a drink to enjoy the ambience of the gardens. We'll need to go back to sample lunch ?.
