Just opened after a month off. Room.was slightly colder than I was expecting but i was OK with it.Food was lovely the 2 staff that was on both nights I was there were brilliant. I couldn't have breakfast as its started at 0730 and I started work at the same time ..the lady got the chef to make me a breakfast pack to take to work ..if I'm back again there later in the year with work I'm sure my score would he higher than 7 out of 10Nearby activities: Lovely short walk to Big Burn Falls(15min walk) from hotel

I find it challenging to comprehend the positive ratings for this hotel in light of the following comments: "dirty room," "defective heater," "noisy," and "unclean hotel."The pricing for this hotel seems exorbitant given its low quality. The only redeeming aspects are the restaurant and the staff who work there. We had to check out one night early due to a power outage. We reached an agreement through a service worker, who communicated with the manager, that we could cancel our reservation for that night and receive a refund since we had to find alternative accommodations. However, once we left the hotel premises, we received no responses to our emails or messages. To the hotel management: Charging over 100 pounds for a carpeted hotel with a lingering smoked fish odor is quite unreasonable. The interior and cleanliness are outdated and do not justify the price. The small heaters in the room are insufficient to keep it warm during late autumn, mainly because the windows offer minimal insulation. As a result, the noise from the busy road outside penetrates the room as if there were no walls. Waking up to a cold room and the smell of fish is far from pleasant, and the breakfast room's quality does not match that of the restaurant. In any other location, this hotel would likely receive a maximum of two stars at best. However, the scarcity of alternatives within this price range in the area makes it challenging to overlook.

The hotel is on a very busy main road. The first night they gave me a room that had no heat and smelled badly of sewage. I was offered a choice of an extra cover or radiator, I chose the extra cover. I was given a double room the next night and a radiator. The high carb food served at lunch and dinner is good and the dining area is warm and cozy with a log fire and stacks of logs up the wall. The staff are mostly welcoming if a bit tense.I feel I should not have had to pay for the first night given conditions.Rooms: Very small. I described problem w room number 4 above.Nearby activities: Walking almost anywhere nearby is just wonderful. Including the peaceful impeccably maintained cemetery.Walkability: It?s easy to work into Golspie that?s a very special place. You can also walk to Dunrobin in about 10 minutes. Please know the main road is very busy and you need to be very careful as traffic can be dangerous.Food & drinks: Lunch and dinner menus are varied and quite good if a bit too heavy on carbsDing room is lovely w a wood fire. Nice Shiraz that goes well w delicious venison stew.Noteworthy details: HotelLocated across from a beautiful stream and there?s a garden that must be nice in summer aside from proximity to major road.

Despite an initial mix up with the room (had not been cleaned from the previous occupant), it was swiftly resolved with the helpful reception attendant placing me in another room.Spacious and clean and although on the main road it was overall very quiet.Perfect location for a morning start at Dunrobin.Would stay again.

Emailed Sunday afternoon/evening via website contact page, enquiring about possibility of a meal booking and being allowed to stay in car park in our campervan afterwards on the Monday, have waited all day (23hrs) and not had the decency to even reply, ah well one pubs loss is another's gain didn't think the licenced trade could afford to loose business these days

Very disappointed stay at this hotel whilst we were cycling the NC500 and we arrived soaking wet from our ride. The room (12) was cold with no central heating. We turned the radiators on no heat, we then complained at reception, asking if there was a fault with the central hearing and we were informed that the hotels Biomass boiler was playing up and that the wood chips were damp. We were assured that the heating would eventually come on. It never did during that evening, overnight or the following morning. We had nowhere to try our clothes other than an electric heater in the room which if we had left clothes on would have caused a fire risk. I asked the receptionist if there was anywhere else to dry our clothes only to be told ?you could try the launderette in the town but it?s probably closed?! Overall the hotel was very tired and in a poor state of repair. I would not recommend.

Small, clean twin room with very comfortable (firm) mattress. Modern bathroom with rain shower over bath. We made a reservation for dinner (recommended), and enjoyed a delicious meal - haggis pancake rolls and then very good chicken breast stuffed with haggis in a red wine sauce - one of the specials of the day. Then menu has lots to choose from, generous portions, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was freshly cooked, good quality.
