I am a book lover. Over the last 17 years, I have bought almost 400 books from WHSmith. I always preferred visiting one of their stores to pick something in person instead of ordering online, and I consistently had good experiences?until recently. A couple of days ago, I stopped by the WHSmith store on Argyle Street in Glasgow. I picked a book from the ?Up to Half Price? offer shelf, but at the checkout, I was asked to pay the full price. There was no discount on the book. When I pointed this out to a staff member named James, he looked at me as if I were an idiot and said, ?You do not understand. It is up to half price.? However, there was no discount at all on that book.
Frustrated, I put the book back and picked up two books from the ?2 for £14? shelf. Back at the counter, James informed me that only one of the books was included in the offer, and the other was not. I explained that I had taken both books from the offer shelf. His response was dismissive: ?You should read the small print. If you do not like it, you can leave,? and he pointed at the door.
I was in shock. This is still the worst treatment I have ever experienced at any retailer. I waited two days before writing this review to calm down. Now I understand why people prefer buying books from Amazon?they respect their customers. I can no longer justify funding James?s wages or supporting a store that allows such treatment of its customers. WHSmith, if this is how your staff treats loyal customers, you do not deserve my money either.

The ginger balding worker is a disgrace
Challenges me for a redbull when I?m clearly over 16 try to show a photo of my passport showing I?m over 16 fair enough he rejects it I put it back and then grab a rubicon mango can the energy ones that Sainsbury?s tescos any other place would not restrict this
The guy then starts moaning and makes me get a refund when you can clearly tell I?m over 16 what a joke the guy gets paid less than £12 an hour and takes his job that seriously as if he?s the police
Worst customer service experience just sad for him in general

I visited the store specifically to process a DHL return, but unfortunately, I encountered some challenges. The woman working at the counter informed me that she couldn't assist me at that moment due to the unavailability of staff to cover her position. Despite there being no other customers in the store at that time, it seemed like a quick and simple task for her to handle the DHL return by scanning the parcel, which would have taken only 30 seconds. However, she remained adamant about being unable to help and disregarded my presence while standing behind the counter. It was disappointing to witness such inaction and lack of effort from the staff

The store was closed during its opening hours and it was surrounded by barriers. It would have been great to reflect that in your opening times in here instead of me walking all the way to be disappointed.

In line with other reviews regarding staff, i show up with a coupon and they refuse to accept it, stating its not valid at this kind of WHsmith .

Won't be back. Clown behind the counter told me to get back from the till in quite a cheeky way, i had to move closer to see the sticker on the boxes due to bad eyesight. Clown

I shop here regularly and whenever I ask staff for help they?re almost always apathetic and unhelpful. I even asked for a book and instead of looking it up and making an effort she just sounded disinterested like she was trying to shake me off until I showed her a photo of the cover. Turns out it was on display as one of their biggest recent releases ?The range is fine, but not great, and don?t bother buying the sweets they?re better prices and more in date at OneBelow next door.

Mature lady in greeting card section has terrible attitude problem.On my visit to the store today was torn faced, grumpy and hostile when I asked for help.Not the first time shes been like that with me and other customers.Clearly has chosen the wrong vocation.I wasn't impressed.

Large store with great selection off stationery and some really beautiful cards. Also does, magazines and books. Some lovely staff too.
