Dead bar with screaming kid after 9pm. Poor parenting
August 2025 by Jackie McNair
Went out with friends on Saturday 16th August for a nice bar meal. Food was awful, menu not good and waiting times ridiculous. The food was also overpriced. Meat was thick and chewy in steak pie, chicken pieces stringy and hard to cut. This used to be a firm favourite of ours but we won't be back shame

Always pop in here for a coffee or food and we are always made welcome
I reduced the stars on this occasion as the website says last order for meals is 8pm ? we, ( 5 of us ) arrived at 7.50pm on Tuesday evening to be told the kitchen had just closed
Please bear this in mind

1. On arrival at hotel I was informed that a cooked breakfast was available from 10am and a breakfast box was offered for anyone wanting an earlier breakfast. This consisted of a croissant, a muffin and a cereal bar!
Nowhere on the booking.com website is it stipulated that breakfast is so very late.
Nowhere on the booking.com confirmation either.
Nowhere on the hotel's own website.
After booking.com confirmed, I received a separate email from the hotel that mentioned this but ONLY AFTER CONFIRMING.
This breakfast timing in my opinion is almost unheard of but all the existing negative reviews on this subject seem to make absolutely no difference to the hotel management/owners.
Having complained twice about this to reception I was given a £10 refund for each room booked.
Secondly, staff do not arrive back at the hotel until 9:30am. Maybe that's why breakfast is so late!
2. In the room, water from the taps is undrinkable and you're alerted to this by a sign on the bathroom wall. Instead they provide approximately 1 litre of water in a bottle, which is supposed to satisfy requirements for all hot drinks made and rinsing after teeth brushing, not to mention water for drinking or filling up my cycling water bottle. Hopelessly inadequate.
3. For my evening meal I had a smoked mackerel platter to start (£7.50)and a burger for main (£16).
About 1oz maximum flaked mackerel with 1/4 hard boiled egg and two new potatoes, halved with mayonnaise and 3 tiny slices of a baguette that were supposed to be toasted but were hardly more than warmed.
The burger was supposed to come with salad, coleslaw and fries. Salad was a few baby leaves in the bun with the burger. Coleslaw was strangely red cabbage in a little mayonnaise. Fries were typical offering.
I didn't bother risking dessert.
4. TV is mounted on an angle poise affair attached to the wall. Fair enough I suppose but I walked straight into it on leaving the bathroom - thankfully just a bump on the head, no blood.
5. TV is a freeview only facility - most modern hotels have a smart TV.

Booked to stay for 2 weeks..
After 2 days of not being able to have a hot shower I asked for a refund , after abit of an argument and owner attempting to scam another night out of me by informing me I had to remove my things by 11am ( he messaged me at 10am - I had asked for a refund the previous evening) so had to leave work and collect my things.
Booked through booking.com, room was reserved by a colleague and used his card details, specifically clicked for pay on arrival so I could with my card. Uplawmoor hotel decided they would take the money from his account so that was a mess about getting refunded back to him and then paying again.
It did make me laugh, I was ultimately made out to be a liar about the shower , after being told it had been checked and been fine, and another conversation apparently the water had to be turned down! I ran the shower for a good 10 minutes every time was tepid at best , there?s a sign to say run the shower and allow it to get hot, so it?s an issue they are aware of, contradictory to this is a sign about saving water by reusing your towels??? Just sort out your plumbing if your going to own a hotel ?
Breakfast not served until 10am ? but do offer a substitute ?breakfast box? consisting of the cheapest packet croissant and cereal bar - no fruit, juice, or anything not out of a packet offered.
Place is extremely dated and poor quality workmanship to try and update the place - e.g the tables are covered with a badly cut pleather material and stuck down with pieces of double sided foam in each corner?
Food in restaurant is expensive and what we had was clearly out of a freezer bag. Staff in the bar were very friendly and cannot fault the hospitality , aside from the owner who was rude and abrupt.
Would strongly advise to go elsewhere , don?t be fooled by the ?runners up in 4 in a bed? sign.

Visited on a Thursday for lunch, afraid to say food was not great. Very small portion for the price compared to your competitors.

Just had the best Haggis, neeps and tatties EVER. I have lived in Scotland 18 years and this is the best I've eaten. Well presented with a panko style crust, a layer of neeps, topped with a generous swirl of mashed potato. Peppercorn sauce adds a bit of bite. James is an excellent host. Chef and staff are to be commended. Dog friendly inside too. Well worth a visit.

Just returned home from 2 nights at the hotel. We came for a friends birthday party in Neilston and stayed here as Bed and Breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very clean and cosy with a lot of character. Shower was great. Breakfast both mornings was delicious. The staff were all very friendly. We will return next time we are up from London
