Built between 1901 and 1910 by J.A. MacTaggarts & Co. as part of a larger development of 300 Glasgow tenements, this corner building on Clarence Drive in Hyndland was originally designed by Andrew Mickel architects under plan number 1/8953 in 1902. Originally comprising 5 tenements with 2-4 bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms, it features a distinctive sunlit sloping awning. The corner unit, now housing the Drive Supermarket, belonged to the St. George Co-Operative Society. Tram lines were added on Clarence Drive in 1910, preceding the establishment of Hyndland Secondary School in 1912 and shops near the top in 1926. The café here has long been a community pillar and, under Stewart and Kim's stewardship, will remain so into the future.
