Visited the shop this afternoon with my fiance as we were looking for potential scents for our upcoming wedding. We were greeted by Lorraine who was so lovely from the get go. She was incredibly knowledgeable about every scent, including knowing what scents we would like and dislike just from letting her know our usual perfumes and aftershaves. She spent time and took us through plenty of options for both of us. We both managed to find our perfect wedding scents and were beyond pleased with our customer service.

The shop looks nice but I had a bit of a rubbish experience at the weekend unfortunately. I popped in to show a couple of friends the perfume I had picked for my upcoming wedding and excitedly sprayed a cardboard strip with my chosen perfume. I did this by holding the perfume up higher and slightly over where the perfumes were presented in a circle and I apologise for doing it near the other perfumes but the security guard (I?m assuming) lady told me off. She said ?Don?t do that above the other testers. You have now ruined all of the tester strips here.?I worked in a perfume store briefly and it wasn?t right over the other strips or very close but I apologise for doing it anywhere near them. I don?t think they were ruined and we felt the security guard overreacted. I actually felt like a child getting told off. She could have been more polite.I had been intending on purchasing from that store but we left immediately after this as we felt uncomfortable.We?ll stick to Edinburgh from now on! The staff there couldn?t be more kind or willing to help.

I went here today and was treated in the most ridiculous way ever. As an SA, when I asked if she had any new products, the SA just said a quick and perfunctory "no". She didn't even bother to walk up to me. She said no and turned away. It was like she didn't even bother to look at us. Meanwhile, a British lady walked in and she was treated kindly.I really didn't think racism could still be encountered at Penhaligon's. Don't you even ask for the minimum equality for all when recruiting staff?I am very disappointed.

Penhaligon's are one of my favourite perfume brands and I usually have a lovely experience in store with the younger sales staff, who are always happy to chat and always have the time of day for me. Today I went to go and pick up a refillable atomiser that I ordered for my partner, which I was thrilled about being able to snag as they had been out of stock for so long. I went in half an hour before closing, after I had finished work, and was met with a stressed demeanour from the older staff member from the get go, despite the shop not being particularly busy, perhaps a couple of other people idly browsing. I firstly asked for my order, and was bluntly handed it when it was eventually located. I timidly asked if the staff member could fill the empty atomiser just now. This was met with a visible stress response and I began to feel like I was asking far too much. Interaction was strained and sparse and any attempt at rapport was shut down. My box was thrust back in my hands and I was told to open it while she digitally went through the collection. I asked for scissors to no response, so ended up awkwardly balancing my box on my knee and using my keys to slice into it at till point, without even being offered a surface. I was carrying multiple bags and beginning to feel a bit anxious. I then unwrapped the atomiser, picked a scent in much more of a hurry than I would have liked and was given my atomiser back. I had to ask for the atomiser to be wrapped up again, and again, this seemed like a massive bother. I asked for a gift bag and offered to pay. I was told that as I purchased online, I'd paid for an online service and the standard store carrier bag was therefore refused to me. It's just a bag. I felt stressed the whole way through my visit and was glad to leave.This brand comes with a higher price tag, and as I work in luxury sales myself, I would never make a customer feel rushed or unimportant to our store, no matter how small the purchase. I've spent a lot of money in Penhaligon's over the years and this left a sour taste in my mouth. Being a stickler for the rules and denying a paying customer something as inexpensive as a gift bag has a really ugly effect on a customer's experience, especially after the service I received. Yes, you probably did everything by the book by denying me a little bag, and congratulations for that, I'm sure you're one step closer to promotion or something, but you honestly put me off buying in store again. Everything I wanted seemed like too much trouble and I was made to feel like an inconvenience. A shame because Penhaligon's scents are lovely. The customer service is not.

Really wanted to visit to shop but it was shut in the middle of the day, well before 4pm on Thursday. No sign of as to why it was shut. Not sure if has been shut down for good.??

The staff are always lovely but what is with the rope cordoning off the door? It is hardly Hermes and it is so off putting having to wait for someone to come and open it for me.
