We didn?t stay at the Inn overnight, but popped in for dinner and WOW!! Not only was the service amazing, but the food was phenomenal. I got the fillet, and every combination with the various sides was incredible. There was nothing left on the plate :). If you happen to be stopping by on a friday/saturday night, it?s very well worth it to make a reservation and swing by this cozy local spot. You won?t regret it!

Pennan village is a tiny and quiet. If you are sucker for beaches, sky and cliffs it's worth visiting once. I would recommend to use the own car as the public transport is not very frequent.

Pennan is a truly delightful little village, one house deep & backed by huge, looming cliffs. It's a trek down the steep road with its blind bends & you have to go back up and down to find dinner, but a night here is definitely a fun experience. Not cheap, but you are paying for the location. We stayed in the front double with three windows right onto the rugged sea front & the iconic red phone box ("Local Hero" location). Basic, but comfortable room & basic but clean bathroom. "German" breakfast (the inn is run by a German couple) was tasty & leafing through the photo art on sale was enjoyable.

We enjoyed our stay at the Pennan Inn B&B very much. The hosts are so welcoming and helpful and make you feel really comfortable. We highly appreciated the continental breakfast they offered. Pennan is a beautiful place, very close to the sea and the nature. We would love to stay there again. The jewellery alone that Monika makes are worth the stay!

Stayed here before, it used to be a lovely traditional Inn with good food, a well stocked bar and friendly staff. Since my previous visit it has changed hands and become a bed and breakfast with gallery attached, the bar is still there but hours seem quite limited. They don't appear to do food anymore. The BnB it's self is clean and tidy, with small but comfortable rooms. The location is iconic, Pennan featuring in the film Local Hero, though this is not the hotel in the movie ( it didn't actually exist in reality, the magic of the movies!) it's not cheap, but you're paying for the location. Bit of a disappointment was the lack of a cooked breakfast. To me one of the joys of staying away is a traditional Scottish fry up, breakfast is available ( at an extra cost) but consists of muesli, some fruit, toast, cheese and meat, a cake, tea and juice. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. The lack of food would be a real problem of you didn't have transport, or perhaps didn't want to drive.

The Pennan Inn is an absolute favorite spot for us and we?ve been staying there periodically since the 80?s under various ownerships and managers (prior reviews are probably posted somewhere on this site!). Our current hosts, Monika and Roland are doing a great job of upholding the standards set by prior owners and offer a warm, welcoming reception to this gem of an Inn on the sea. The accommodation remains basic but more than adequate (ours lacked a hot water tap on the bathroom sink which we found odd) and the pub, when open, remains a friendly hideaway with a warm fire and very genial landlords. Full service continental breakfast (included when booking directly) was delicious and abundant (special marks for Roland?s German coffee). Hopefully, with Covid nearly behind us, the hosts will be able to staff up a bit and expand meal offerings and public pub hours as the Inn has for decades been a vital resource to guests (and locals) with few options for food and drink in the immediate area.

The view is spectacular, seeing the aurora is super. But the rooms are a bit drafty. Otherwise full 5 star.

The Inn was a very clean and comfortable retreat in the lovely tiny seaside town of Pennan. The proprietors, Monika and Roland, were not only friendly and welcoming but made every effort to accommodate special dietary needs with tasty, generous breakfasts and delicious home-cooked soup (or sandwiches) in the evening. Monika made sure I had a sea view room, which I especially loved for falling asleep at night with the incoming tidal waves crashing against the seawall just across the road. It was an adventure getting down into Pennan and a delight to stay at this hospitable Inn. My only regret is that there were no northern lights on display during my stay; if there had been, Monika would have been on the alert to enable her guests to enjoy them. I already think about going back.

Pennan is a lovely little village. We enjoyed our stay but the sea view room was very disappointing. The bedding was of poor quality and the room itself was very tired. Much was said about the film and the phone box, how ever we would not return .

We booked a weekend stay with the hope of seeing the northern lights. We took the option of having the aurora pager (an additional cost of £20) for the weekend as we didnt want to risk missing any lights. It does need charged each day so dont forget to hand it in at breakfast. Room was small but more than adequte, very clean. Comfortable bed, heating adjustable to own preference too. Ensuite clean, good shower, a bit small but done the job, 'power' shower head which didnt appear adjustable but wasn't an issue for us. Tea/coffee/kettle available in the room. We were offered a sandwich for evening meal time on day of arrival as there are no evening meals offered, it was very fresh and tasty, it was more than enough to keep us going until breakfast. Breakfast was on table for our chosen time (930am) served in the gallary. There was fresh fruit, cold meats, cheese, toast, greek yogurt/meusli, boiled egg and option of tea or coffee. This was all very nice but we were aware of how much wasted food there was as only one of us like yogurt/meusli and cooked meats. We didn't get a chance to ask for just boiled eggs on toast the following day, but we did for 3rd day and it was no problem at all. I think perhaps asking people their preference on arrival would maybe save some food being wasted. That said, the food was all fresh and tasty. The bar was closed for alcohol sales when we were there but we were welcome to bring our own and enjoy the cosy log fire and the company of other guests. We did have snacks for our room and read later in the welcome pack that food should not be eaten in the rooms. We weren't sure if this meant like takeaway food etc but as we had already had our snacks eaten by time we read this, we didn't clarify with hosts. We travelled around the area during the day visting McDuff, lovely coffee shop in Banff, Slains Castle, Fraserburgh sea front and also The Captains Table for a lovely meal. Be warned the road down to the B&B is a steep single track, a prayer went out each time we were either going up or down so we didnt meet anything coming the other way. Would definitely not have liked to have done it in the dark for the first time so be mindful of this when travelling. Monika and her husband are lovely hosts and keen to help you enjoy your stay in the area giving advice on places to go. Unfortunately, we didn't see the lights during our stay, they appeared 2 days later, just typical. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay, right on the sea front, away from the hustle bustle of modern life. We enjoyed our stay.
