We are members of this museum and love visiting every time we visit Gairloch. The cafe is fantastic and can always cater for my Husband?s and Son?s dietary requirements without skimping on quality. Sally already knows the drinks orders without us having to say ?. The chance to be interactive with some artefacts is always a great laugh with the children. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

I was recently in the area on holiday. Was just passing by the museum and decided to visit. So glad I did. For a small museum it holds a wealth of information presented in an interesting and modern way and seems suitable for all ages. It has very modern facilities which include a fabulous cafe and gift shop. The staff in the museum and cafe were lovely. All in all it was a great place to learn about the area and sample the delicious home bakes. Sorry no photos other than the delicious soup and cheese and seaweed scone!Thanks...

Lovely little museum. Not at the location shown on Google maps as this is the old museum. 5 minute walk further on past the shops.Very friendly staff, knowledgeable and helpful.Cafe was fabulous, 2 lovely ladies working here. We were welcomed by the beautiful smell of hone-cooking. Food was fabulous and nice to have the personal touch in this venue, not often found these days. Quality food and fabulous interaction. Thank you

Just made a return visit to the museum and I found it as interesting as my first visit. The staff are friendly and helpful. I really like how the conversion of the ww2 building/bunker as been achieved, it self a part of Gairloch's past. After the history bit the wife and myself went up to the cafe for lunch, what a wonderful experience the food was absolutely amazing. I can only give a 5 star review, but the staff of 4 all deserve a review, so i would like to give all of them 5 stars that makes 20 out of 5.As Arnie said I WILL BE BACK.

Absolutely loved this quirky wee museum. Very friendly and helpful chap on the front desk. Fascinating selection of exhibits all laid out well with clear information. The children also had a ball locating the hidden fish! I especially enjoyed the little cinema experience, in particular the piece about the gaelic language. As someone from the east coast of Scotland who has despaired at the bizarre practice of labelling police cars and ambulances in the gaelic rather than in English, the little film left me with a better understanding of how many folk from the Highlands and Islands must feel about the language.Highly recommend a visit here.

A lovely little find on our NC500 trip. The video in the small theatre room upstairs did a great job of explaining the history of the area, paying homage to the locals who used to work the crofts and the gaelic language that they spoke. If you have kids then you'll probably be in and out pretty quickly as it's not a big place and a lot of the displays involve reading, but there's easily enough to keep adults entertained for a few hours, maybe an hour for kids. Even if you just want to pop in for some gifts, the gift shop seemed to have a lot of local products instead of the usual plastic tat.

Went on a wet day. Thought it was going to be a bit rubbish, but I was mistaken! We were in the for about 2 hours. There was a little movie which told a story of Gairlochs history and some fantastic taxidermy animals. Some which I'd happily pay to own! Went for a pot of tea and cake in the cafe which was all homemade and delicious! Sat outside on the balcony with a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Lovely little place to go.

What a really well run and informative museum.Entry for the family was cheap enough (£15.00).Staff were very friendly, informative and approachable and the information set out throughout the museum was in a form that the children could understand. We went to the cafe and the staff were also friendly, in particular Sally, who was not only friendly but also acknowledged that my family and I were visiting from out of the area and informed us of what to do as a family. These small things from local residents go a long way and make the visit memorable. Prices in the cafe were very reasonable, especially for a family of 5.Our children loved dressing up clothes too.Great place to visit for the family.
