Did weekly shop
September 2025 by Stephanie McL
I parked my car on the 'roof' and collected my trolley and came down in the lift...as I exited the lift I immediately noticed the filthy floors in the fruit and veg area., and the overwhelming smell, like urine...I immediately passed through this area instead of lingering for a peruse as I normally would do. I usually only go to this specific Waitrose every few months to purchase things I can't get anywhere else, and normally like my visits there and see what else is available - this might've been a once off, but have noticed the cleanliness decreasing

Usual suspects, South Edinburgh crowd who like their luxuries :) has a reasonable parking area which is great. Coffee stop for members inside the premises, they also have a fantastic meat counter, sushi, flower section and an ok array of wine and drinks.

Overpriced rubbish. Store was dirty and is in desperate need of a refurbishment

Been there for plenty of times and went there yesterday for collecting online orders. The service is fast and I enjoy every time when I visit Waitrose

My partner and I buy all of our alcohol from waitrose because they have brand names we like and a good selection. Today, we came in to do our usual shop and when we went through checkout we were told that our IDs (that we always use) were not sufficient to buy alcohol. For context, we are 25 and 26 years old, American, and have lived in the area and shopped at this waitrose for three years. We always use the same IDs, which are our American drivers licenses. Today we were told that waitrose only accepts British IDs, and if we wanted alcohol we would have to come back with our passports. I was confused, asked if this was a new policy, and was curtly told that it was always the policy of waitrose to not recognize American (or any foreign) forms of ID. I then offered to show my British ID, but the person serving us would not even look at it because my partner (26 and with an American ID) admitted she did not have a British ID with her.
This was really frustrating, and made me and my partner feel very much not welcome. Both of us work in service here in the uk, and we get that dealing with Americans and tourists is somewhat of a joke?but we felt like we were complying and ready with IDs that had been accepted by the store for 3 years. Not sure what changed. I tried to look up the policy when I got home and couldn?t find one online.

Best food store in Edinburgh

The large pillars supporting the roof car park make shopping with a trolley awkward.
Good range of fruit and veg some of which is sold loose which is a bonus for us singletons.

Love this store. My kind of shop - park on roof, nip down steps. The store is small enough to get round quickly and find what you want, yet large enough to have everything you want. Top quality food, albeit pricey, excellent fruit and veg. Staff are fine, could be a bit more smiley but ok.

Fantastic selection, especially as someone with allergies. Good quality products for the price.
