The quality of the food was decent and reasonable value for the city centre, so solid 3 stars. It's the service really lets the place down with disinterested waiting staff and a general decor/atmosphere that's a bit depressing. Given there are more than a few top quality Indian food places not 5 minutes walk away, it is hard to recommend it. It used to be the go-to veg place in Edinburgh but time moves on. Sadly Kalpna has not.

I had a very enjoyable meal, however I had visited a few years ago and it was exceptional, so was a tad disappointed. The sauces seemed under spiced and there was less fresh ingredients. The spiciest thing was the line pickle. the breads were fresh and very tasty and the staff were very good and friendly. maybe I just chose the wrong dishes.

We were travelling back home and looking for pure vegetarian option.
The food was very good in taste. Paneer Butter Masala was too sweet for our liking but that is our personal opinion.
Both variety of Garlic Naans were amazing.
Parking is free after 6.30pm. It's a busy street so you might struggle to find the space.
The only thing I didn't like was the service charge, we were group of 12 people and they charged 10% service charge. That means we paid nearly 2 extra dishes money.
I am not against service charge but they should ask if we are happy with it.
Overall it was very good experience.

The food was excellent. Delicious. Absolutely couldn't fault it- but sadly the service was poor. Pleasant enough staff but we were only given one menu, no drinks menu, waited ages for drinks, no plates until after the food and no serving spoons . The lovely little waitress had food all down her front. I can take all this, if I have to- but it really, really sticks in the craw when they slap 12.5 % on the bill. We could have taken it off - but they rely on you probably not doing so.
I haven't starred the atmosphere because it wasn't their fault but..... on the off-chance that the entitled family of about 12 who were so pleased with themselves for playing cheat at the top of their voices and spoiling the evening for everyone else- are reading this - your behaviour was absolutely disgraceful. Shame on you all. Especially the parents who were encouraging their pretty much adult children to behave so appallingly.
Not easy for the staff-- but you should really have dealt with it.

Very very bad service. They don?t know how to deal with customer.They gave food but didn?t give spoons and every time we need to call the person they didn?t come a single time before calling them. The food was also average. And the price was too expensive even they charge service charges without giving a service. Will not go again there in my life.

Very bad food had dosa yesterday but the sambhar was stale raise the issue with the restaurant but they didn?t took any action even the stomach got upset only go there if you want to have old stale food

Best homemade food with a taste of home in the UK. They also serve Jain food. Rakesh was very sweet to serve us lunch and recommended the buffet. The environment is pleasant, and the service feels homely.

Homely atmosphere, excellent food, prompt service and very friendly staff. The chef went the extra mile to make sure we had a wholesome experience. Definitely recommend for good quality Indian food in Edinburgh.

Delicious buffet! Great spot to go in Edinburgh for vegans. And the staff were very kind and accommodating with our toddlers
