It was our first dining experience in Edinburgh, and the food was amazing at Howies. We had haggis, cullen skink, mushroom soup, and smoked salmon & trout ? all of them were starters. I had previously read a comment here saying that Howies doesn?t allow customers to order starters only, but we had no problem with that. I had never tasted haggis before, but I loved it ? it was so flavourful. In my opinion, the starter portion was enough since it was quite a rich dish. We?ll definitely visit Howies again on our next trip to Scotland.

Had an early dinner here and it was truly delicious, the service from Chris and his fellow team members was above and beyond, and it had a lovely vibe and in a central location! Was our first time trying some traditional Scottish food and it was very fresh and tasty. Overall would highly recommend here to anyone especially visitors from outside Edinburgh.

Overrated. Everything I?ve read about this place did not really come true.
Onion rings were tasteless.
Presentation was just ok.
The room was so loud and had an echo when a friend said he heard music I didn?t believe him.
The soup of the day and venison stew was pretty good though but otherwise not worth the hype or the price.

10 out of 10 for style, service and the food. We went Saturday early evening and were treated like very valued customers .The best Scottish Salmon I've ever had.

Had a mixed experience. The apps of haggis neeps and tatties (and suggested Glengoyne pairing) and the smoked mackerel pate were delicious, but the mains took nearly an hour to bring out (though all the staff kept very busy) and were just ok to boot (we got the venison casserole and catch of the day of cod). Dessert of banoffee pie and vanilla sky cocktail were pretty good. I would rate this 3.5 stars if Google would allow it.

Nice place - I?m sorry we made the reservation too late to be served in the main room. I enjoy the soup of the day and the salmon.
