I've been volunteering for the BHF on Portobello High Street for a number of years now. It's a great place to work for all kinds of reasons! There's a great team of management and volunteers, so we all feel well looked after and appreciated. It's also fascinating to see how the shop runs, both on the shop floor and behind the scenes.I help stock the book shelves, and I just love being surrounded by such an interesting and diverse range of writing, from the latest bestsellers to collectibles from my childhood! And it's great getting to help customers choose their next read. All in all, I would really recommend volunteering here. It helped me get through a tough time in my life so I can honestly say that it has done my heart good!

I started volunteering at the shop about 5 years ago and have totally enjoyed being part of the Porty team. It's a very friendly, supportive and fun environment plus the managers genuinely appreciate the time given by all of their volunteers. So, if you're considering volunteering, I would highly recommend getting in touch with the Portobello BHF shop.

This is a very clean and well laid out store. Lots of great bargains on offer, from entertainment, to books, to clothes. Pop in if you?re in the neighborhood and make sure to give donations. Really great.

My favourite charity. Great that you can donate goods and they will email you with the amount of money raised from their sale.

I have been visiting and donating to the three charity shops on this corner for many years now and often buying a few bits and bobs and it's great to see people donating goods they no longer want or need for these shops to make money but I am afraid today will be the last I ever give or buy from the British heart foundation. It's always been a really cramped shop where you can never get around easily especially as I use a rollator to walk for balance but I often see mums with prams struggling round but it's suppose to be about the floor plan away that aside. Today as I got out to take the donation bag out the car a woman and young guy came out and opened the trade waste bin and proceeded to tip blankets, sheets curtains and pillow cases into it, I said oh my goodness wait I can give them to the Bethany care shelter or fresh start they are needed there is nothing wrong with them, no she said you can't have them they are going in the bin and poured oil over them I said what are you doing she said stopping people stealing out the buckets! I said but why don't you recycle them? We don't recycle, well give them to the homeless shelter, we don't donate! I have never been so angry lovely warm clean blankets nice fresh looking curtains and other bedding in the bin! If people realised that instead of making some money on the donated good or recycling them even or getting some money from the rag man who comes around d dry Friday that this charity shop was stuffing their buckets with them to go and make the landfill problem worse then surely they would think twice, I will never give them another thing or buy from them.
