Nice location in Grassmarket, close to all the sightseeing action, and only a few treacherous flights of stairs from the castle. You've got a lot of options launching your trip from Apex Grassmarket. Not to be confused with "the other" Apex hotel located about two buildings down, this is not that Apex. And your cabbie may need to know exactly which one you're visiting, because if you have to walk two buildings over it wouldn't be good. In town for a business meeting, I thought it'd be more about the surrounding area than the hotel, but the Apex delivered with helpful staff and accommodating meeting spaces. Breakfast in the restaurant daily had many menu choices along with the continental buffet, all served quickly and accompanied by lovely coffee and tea selections. This beats out the typical company meeting breakfast spread by a mile. You'll have a row of pubs scattered with Italian across the street and follow historic Victoria Street up the hill to many more eating picks within a kilometer (threw that measurement in for all you metric-types). There's even a crosswalk directly in front of the hotel headed toward "pub row" where cars actually yield when you're crossing. The bar and restaurant inside the hotel are nice environs if you decide not to venture out into the drizzle. Overall a good stay and I'd return.

Hotel location is amazing, welcome desk also fantastic, the bar wasn't great and didn't have any food or snack options in the evening, also no room service which felt quite unusual for a hotel like this. Team were very polite though and lovely to have access to a

Stayed here previously a few years ago and safe to say it?s very run down since sadly. Things look tired, stained and chipped in the public areas and the corridors carpets have seen better days. The room itself was clean but again signs of wear, chipped broken tiles, burns/marks on the furniture, sink full of hairline cracks. The staff have been wonderful as we needed to switch rooms (more than once!) we are visiting with an assistance dog and everyone?s been so welcoming and friendly.Area is fab and the car park is a bonus, but safe to say if we visit the area again we?ll be staying elsewhere. Such a shame.

Hotel is in an excellent location in the old town for visiting all the attractions. We had a room overlooking the castle and Grassmarket which was nice and clean.Be aware though there are plenty of bars and restaurants in this area so it can be a little noisy late at night. We managed to get parking at the hotel which was a bonus and £15 per night.Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice for all tastes although i did miss having a pie on the evening menu. All the staff were particularly friendly and excellent behind the desk especially the young man with the beard, and thanks to Jimmie in the bar who looked after us for dinner and drinks for our stay.

The hotel is very nice, and the location is great. It is very clean, and would recommend if you like busy areas as it can be a bit noisy at night, as there are many bars located in the square next to the hotel. The benefit of this is that you will get a lovely view. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The service overall was very good, and although we didn't have breakfast, it looked like it was very well equipped for it.Unfortunately I had a bad experience with reception at time of check-in as we arrived late at night and the service wasn't great. I wasn't able to pay with my preferred card, as the receptionist was having trouble with the card machine. So I didn't have the welcoming experience.Checking out was the opposite, very friendly receptionist, smiling all the time and very helpful.

Room had a balcony and a great view. Room was clean and comfortable. Room service and food great. Service at the front desk not so much. Really close to all the attractions, including historical and shopping.

Overall wonderful place to stay! Great location near the pubs. If you?re looking quite probably not the spot for you as all the pubs are right outside, but that didn?t bother us at all. Front desk was helpful. The only drawback was it was a quite hot in there and it was sept?I can?t imagine Summer in that room!

We enjoyed our stay at the Apex. We are traveling with a group and all arrangements have been completed for us. It is located ideally near the old Edinburgh Castle and Royal Mile. The rooms are clean and well organized. There are many plugins for all the electronics that need changing every night. Breakfast was hot, plentiful with an attentive wait staff. My only concern was the bathroom. Very small, sink was at my knees! Tub/shower was difficult to get in and out.Nearby activities: Edinburgh castle, Royal MileWalkability: Very close to all the sights and shopping

Very slow booking in system, staff not rude but likewise, not friendly. Breakfast was worth having but you need to book it the night before. Location was very good with excellent views of the castle. The rooms were 'comfortable' but we were surprised there was no aircon. I don't know what they do when you go to reception but whatever you ask takes ages. We added breakfast for the following two mornings and it took nearly 15 minutes and we had to pay in advance, couldn't add it to our room, ridiculous!!!

Staff at the hotel were very hospitable and friendly, the location is really convenient and beautiful as we had a view of the streets below and the imposing Edinburgh Castle. There were a few 'stains' on the bedroom floor but it wasn't too bad. Reason I had to drop a star was because it was so hot, especially in the hallways. And my family didn't think the 2023 summer menu in the restaurant satisfied us as we were used to these foods (we're from south asia), but the staff recommended some great restaurants across the street. Overall the service and location really made this hotel great!

I really enjoyed this hotel. It is a fantastic location, sitting down below the castle with lots of restaurants, bars, and shops in the area. The room was large, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The front desk staff were helpful when asked questions. One negative though, was that our room was very loud in the early mornings. There was big trucks making deliveries in the parking lot area beneath our room at the back of the hotel. The other thing is that the bathtub is raised several feet (maybe 2) off the floor! Meaning you are stepping up quite a bit to get over the top of it. It was even harder to get out safely when you are wet! But even with the weird tub, I would recommend the hotel for it's comfort and fabulous location.

This is a great hotel, in a fantastic location, friendly service and clean rooms. We stayed at the Apex with our two children aged 11 and 16, our room had a beautiful view of Edinburgh castle and there are wonderful shops, restaurants, activities all around the hotel. We were in town during the Fringe festival and we could watch street performances from our room. The hotel is clean, the staff is very friendly, the pool was a perfect place for the kids to unwind. I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend this hotel to couples or families.

Ideal location for Fringe and Tattoo, the cost merits the central location. Very high standard of service and all staff were welcoming from check in, restaurant, and cleaners. Only a fan for air-conditioning in our room, but was sufficient, .

Expensive, but nice place to stay in the middle of Edinburgh. not far away from main attractions. Own car park (15 pound/night). Restaurant at top floor was closed, which was too unfortunate (could e.g. be used to listen to the tatoo shows on Saturday). Could not test breakfast or gym, only 1 night stay with early check-out to reach our early flight. Good place to stay in the city center.

While the hotel is ideally located within walking distance to most of the sights , at night time the area is very noisy from revellers in the pubs on the Main Street below. The hotel unfortunately does not have air conditioning installed and the heat in the bedroom (no heating on) was unbearable. The hotel has house fans in each room but it really doesn?t help even after I asked for a second one. Hotel is clean and comfortable.
