It's the sort of cosy, adorable pub you want to sit in all night enjoying drinks and company. The problem is, it's not really a pub at all - it's a (very fancy!) restaurant. You need to book in advance, eat within your allocated 90 minutes, then leave to make room for the next booking. We didn't stay overnight as had a cottage nearby, so can't comment on rooms. We went on 30th Dec after confusion about whether or not it was open. We'd earlier seen a review saying it was shut til March, and the day before we took a walk down and it appeared closed up for the winter. However, we then saw another review that suggested it was open, so we booked online via their website for dinner that night and crossed our fingers! On arrival, they had no notification of our booking, despite my having a reference number. They did, luckily, still find us a table next to the fire. To sum up - it was overall a good experience, but we left with mixed feelings. I really wanted to love this place, and I did love the decor, location, atmosphere and food. Despite some bad reviews, the staff were all very pleasant. The food was tasty and v fancy. A nice waiter showed my daughter how to eat langoustines and brought her wee tools to help. Downsides - 4 main courses and 2 drinks came to £106. Portions were too big and booking info had warned us we had our table for 90 minutes. No time/room for desserts, but at those prices, just as well. 30% is added onto menu prices. Luckily I had read reviews warning about this or I would have been pretty miffed. We got 4 'big plates', 1 diet coke, 1 pint of Skye Red, and (free) tap waters. I would have preferred smaller portions for cheaper prices. They do 'small plates', which I found confusing (are they starters?) so I would recommend going for the small plates and a cheaper bill. Phone to book.

We were unfortunately the only ones in there but strangely this place still retained an atmosphere, The background music was very pleasant as were Charlie and Neal. The portions were enormous and incredibly tasty.. Certainly no room for pudding. Have eaten here before and will definitely come again

Lovely place, location and people. Couldn't be more helpful, and one word comes to mind, 'care'. And new staff member known locally as 'Whisky Dave' knows his stuff about the water of life, photography and the northern lights. He's a great asset too.

Wet and wild day in Skye on our honeymoon. We were warmly welcomed by the attentive waiter. Great vibe- mix of old-school local pub with pop-art music decor.Local, fresh food coupled with local ale selection and a window seat to watch the storm batter the rugged landscape. We had the local fish selection to start, Veggie buttermilk burger main and Sticky Toffee Pudding to finish.

I hate the give less than a 5 star review for The Stein Inn but our visit on this occasion was not good.Firstly, we booked a table via the website and confirmed it by phone...but on arriving, we were eventually greeted by a guy who basically just told us to go and find a table and sit down...in other words, they hadn't bothered to actually reserve us a table. Luckily, there was an empty table...otherwise the it would have been a wasted 45minute drive. The guy who served us clearly doesn't like his job... everything seemed like a big effort and an inconvenience to him. I understand you are busy...but it takes nothing to be friendly.Food was on the expensive side for what we ordered, although the food was delicious.Bread and butter was an absolute rip off...£1.50 for the thinnest slithers of bread you will ever see. They put a pot of butter on the plate which was ridiculously disproportionate to how much bread you got.Worse still...the sneaky 10% service charge on top of the bill was just pure greed. This was even more frustrating as the customer service was not good. This isn't the first time we have been to The Stein Inn...we would love to go back there again but this experience would really put us off from going again.

Ate at the Inn 2 nights in a row. First night we had mussels, langos. It was delicious though a bit of work ?. Second night we had venison stew and fish&chips. Honestly everything is delicious, cannot go wrong. Making reservations online is very easy. Highly

Went there for a birthday lunch.Had an amazing seafood feast.Local lobsters and crabs which had been caught 20 minutes before reaching our plates. Couldn't get any fresher. Owner and staff were so welcoming and friendly. They couldn't do enough for us.

The food was excellent, and the staff was very welcoming. The service could be even better if they came more often to the tables to ask for a drink refill of to distribute water pitchers (Both things that we often missed when we were there).

The Stein Inn was our favorite restaurant we have visited in our two weeks in the UK.Food - Was absolutely amazing; goat cheese bonbon was packed with flavor, the venison stew was so tender and mouthwatering, Langustines fresh and juicy with a lovely herby sauce, sticky toffee pudding was to die for (absolutely melt in your mouth)Service - Our waiter was very friendly and made us great recommendations.Atmosphere - A quiet relaxing place for dinner, with the sound of forks on plates being the loudest sound in the restaurant, lit mostly with warm/candle light it gives a lovely setting. My biggest complaint about Stein is the fact that we didn't find it sooner so we could eat there another night!Give this great Inn/Pub/Restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed.

Dropped in for lunch after many years away. Appears to have upgraded itself since we were last there and now serves mainly seafood. Fairly pricey. We just opted for the mussel, fish and leek chowder (as we had a serious meal ahead of us that evening) which had plenty of fish and leeks in it but wasn't particularly flavoursome or well seasoned. Others were ordering some serious seafood. Lovely view and a garden over the road by the loch. Comfy cosy interior, friendly staff.

Food was ok however I have never had 20% vat added to a bill and a menu showing vat exclusive prices. Yes, we have to pay vat on food but to give out a menu with no mention anywhere that vat will be added? And the excuse given? Noone notices generally but occasionally someone does...and we have to charge vat....but not to show this clearly on a menu is it on. With the 10% service charge added, that's a whopping 30% addition when you get your bill.

We made a late reservation, which is no doubt why we ended up sitting in a fairly characterless room adjoining the kitchen and across the hall from the bar and main restaurant. Service was slow; as at many other restaurants (worldwide?), there aren?t enough servers. I suspect, however, that what I?d ordered tripped things up. I ordered pheasant. What arrived a good while later looked an awful lot like beef in beef gravy. Tasted like it, too. It was fine for what it was but ? to not even come back to the table and explain things? I also had chowder, which was quite good, and my wife enjoyed the monkfish and tomato salad. Wine was satisfactory. An odd dinner.

Do not stay here!!!! We stayed one night. Left too early for breakfast. Room was dirty, tiny and not worth anywhere near the £165 we paid. The staff are quite frankly the rudest and most unprofessional I?ve ever encountered. We tried to get our money back as soon as we saw the room but there was some excuse about there not being any management around so we had to stay. Although the Australian waitress did tell us that ?you can go if you don?t like it?. The French barman was utterly rude to us. We waited about 20 mins to get a drink without any acknowledgment. We couldn?t move in our room. One of us had to lie on the bed if the other was getting dressed. There was no mirror in the bathroom (!) no television or radio and the decor looked like it had come from a jumble sale. Apparently that?s what a ?budget room? looks like according to the staff. We had to leave for a ferry in the morning but breakfast didn?t start until 8.30. We were told that they would leave some food out for us. It was dark and we couldn?t find the lights but found some cereal with no milk and a bowl of fruit. We left at 7.15 without seeing a soul and without so much as a coffee. Money down the drain. And not one single apology.

We stayed here overnight in the beautiful north of Skye, We loved the quirky old inn, peacefully located on the shore of the loch, the friendly staff, the location and the excellent dinner and breakfast. We walked the Quiraing the next day, about an hour's drive up the Trottenish peninsular. To top it all Steve found and sent back to us a favourite cashmere sweater, left in the dining room. Thank you, Steve!

Great food and ambience. We had lobster, and fish and chips. Both were fresh and delicious. Service was friendly and quick. The staff were clearly kept busy as the place was really busy. Other diners were also enjoying their food around us. I do feel they should make it clearer that the menu prices don't include vat and service, both of which can cause the bill to be larger than expected. But for value and quality, not to mention a quirky surrounding and good atmosphere, this place can't be beat.
