Popped in to the Cooper Dog now the Spey Inn last week as we couldn't get in the Mash Tun. The staff were excellent, warm, friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We cancelled our dinner booking at the Mash Tun on the back of it and had dinner the next night which was excellent again, high quality and in a lovely atmosphere. We returned for drinks on another two occasions. The young people that looked after us need to be commended for their efforts and the management for selecting people and installing a great attitude to service. Well done all at the Craigellachie, we will be back again the next time we are up in Speyside. Best regards Ken Scott

A nice atmosphere in an old hotel. Quite spacious as opposed to many places in Scotland. Very good food and service. The only place we found Cranachan. I believe they have changed the name to The Spey Inn

We tried the Copper Dog, we really did. It took us awhile to find the place, not their fault. But we did find the place, and then walked in, and then stood around for 5 or 10 minutes. There was another couple sitting in a booth, but after seeing no other form of life to greet us, or try to seat us, or check in with us, we just walked out and chose another option.

We went in to get a later lunch on a Saturday with family. They started by serving us 3 pints of the most rancid, vinegary Old Jock I have ever tasted. I find it very hard to believe that it had gone that badly off over the course of one day. The barstaff replaced them with other drinks with no fuss, but I was dismayed to see that when we went to the bar to pay, the pump clip was still on, implying that they were still serving this awful beer. The food was OK - not great, standard pub grub, but at fine dining prices. Their veggie selection was quite disappointing. Then to add insult to injury they slap on a 12.5% service charge, which I don't recall seeing anywhere on the menu. We were a group of 4 adults and 1 child, so hardly a large party. Really not impressed.

We tried to book a table for 11 guests, consisting of family and friends, the night before a wedding. We phoned almost 3 weeks in advance to try and book, since tables of 8 or over cannot be booked online. The first time phoning we were told we would receive a phone back shortly, after they had spoken with the restaurant manager to confirm the booking. Over 24 hours later there had been still no response, so we called again and was told the same thing, they would chase it up and get back to us with confirmation. Another 48 hours went by with no response. We then phoned again to check up on the booking only to be told the restaurant manager won't make a decision on the booking so both the member of staff and ourselves were left in limbo. Left infuriated at the ignorance and lack of service just trying to book a table we decided we would no longer like to book with them since our custom is not appreciated. We have went to the copper dog (now named the Spey Inn) for several years and loved it, however we will not be returning due to this huge disappointment and rude response. The bridal party wanted to spend their last evening spent before marred life with family eating good food in nice surroundings in one of their favourite local restaurants/bars, but what a disappointment that turned out to be.

The service was slow with no attention to detail. Our food was served after two other tables that arrived and ordered 20 minutes after we had sat and ordered. Then we were asked what we ordered. My burger was well overcooked and the husband's beef pie had claggie pastry, not flaky or inviting. The gravy was over salted. We would not return.

Fabulous spot. We sat inside as it was a bit cooler but outside on a nice day would be lovely too. The menu has something for everything, we all had the panko breadcrumbed haddock, home made chips, homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas.....gorgeous, fresh and beautifully cooked. The staff are delightful, helpful and smiling! Beautiful traditional setting. After lunch my guests, from Australia, went across to the Craigellachie Bridge. Simon is a Pipe Major, so he piped us across and back. Perfect end to a lovely lunch.

After a whiskey tour and tasting at The Macallan, we were left hungry having made the 3 hour drive up from St. Andrews. Wandered into the Copper Dog (since it was the only place that had food at 3pm). Quaint and rustic and just what you would imagine in the countryside of Scotland. Finally tried haggis bon bons for the first time and ordered 3 types of local cheeses. The haggis was much more tasty than were originally led to believe. Although it's a mix of heart, liver and lung minced up - it was served deep fried in a bon bon (haggis ball) with a whisky sauce and a wee bit of lettuce. The local cheeses were also tasty served with oat crackers (not as much a fan). The haggis bon bons were so good we ordered another plate to share between the 3 of us.Had a huge array of whisky, beer and wine available. ordered the steak pie, fish and chips and haggis and cabbage. Everything was so good. Who would have thought a small countryside venue would be serving up such delicious Scottish food.

Decent food, slow and inattentive service. I asked what beer is on cask as I saw 3 cask handles at the bar when we walked in, Oddly was given a list of 7. Ordered one and it was draft, not cask. Waitress didn't come back by until our plates were empty to ask what we would like for desert. Son ordered ice cream, after 30 minutes, we couldn't wait any longer and decided to just pay and leave.

This is a really cosy pub/restaurant and is very welcoming. Good menu, reasonably priced and all food was well presented and tasted delicious. While there the staff gave us a tour of the Quaich bar which is great to see. It currently has over 800 bottles of whisky on display. Definitely worth booking this restaurant beforehand.

Popped in for lunch today, our first visit having driven past many times. The restaurant had a lovely cosy feel to it and the initial welcome by the staff was warm. Our meals were really nice, piping hot and very generous in size. Attentive service throughout the meal, and we felt well looked after. The bill had the service charge included and we thought the price was good value for a lovely meal.

First class all round We come here every 6/8 weeks and whilst we have never had reason to complain the service was average. It seems the staff have been changed and it is a long time since I have come across such attentive and friendly bunch of people. They went that extra mile and it is so nice to have chatty smiling staff. I would give them 15 out of 10. Fantastic.
