Forget the 3 Star hotel rating......The Northern Sands is Excellent.Excellent Accommodation.Excellent Ambiance.Excellent Restaurant and Food.Excellent and Friendly staff.Nothing is too much trouble for them.Unbeknown to me, I'd left my jacket in the wardrobe by mistake, 2 hours after leaving Theresa (Manager)was on the phone arranging to post it to me.We will certainly be going back to this Excellent Hotel, in a most wonderful and breathtaking part of the world.

We stopped for a meal before catching the ferry home to Orkney. We had the garlic mushroom starter and pan fried rump of lamb...... absolutely the best meal out for a long time. Highly recommend ??

It was a shot in the dark as there are not many places to stay when doing the top of Scotland on the North Coast 500 and we struck lucky with the North Sands Hotel. It was clean and modern with warm and welcoming staff. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent - hot, well presented and delicious plus a very good choice of meals. There was a bar available as well. Our bedroom was warm with a good en suite although my pillows were hard for me. Breakfast, which is ordered the night before, was first rate. Again an excellent selection and served piping hot. It certainly is a little oasis is the wilds of Scotland. LMC

The vegetarian options were just veg added to sauce. We could have tofu for an extra £3 per dish taking a sweet and sour dish from £12 to £15. The meet dishes looked great and everyone seemed to enjoy them. The dogs were welcomed in a dawg shack outside the hotel in a wooden hut with aircon of heating.

Attended a Wedding recently and the whole place was amazing. I expected something else being that its location is in the middle of no where. The decor was amazing and the service well above expectations. The staff were 1st class and the entire place could not be faulted.A real Gem in the Caithness country side.Oh, and the Haggis Bon Bons were to die for.

Great stay at Northern Sands.Nice and warm considering how cold and windy it was outside, super friendly service. Loved how much availability of gluten free food there was for breakfast and evening meal.

Our 4th visit over the last few years and Northern Sands maintains a consistently good product, very nice food, good choice of drinks, rooms and public areas are maintained to high levels, staff are pleasant and engaging. Prices are reasonable in the current inflationary climate where cost escalation in some locations does not justify the product, not the case here.Rooms: Nicely appointed roomsFood & drinks: Very good food.

Lovely hotel with really welcoming staff. Rooms are modern and clean, and the bar and food were great. Perfect location near dunnets head (less than a 10 minute drive) and within walking distance to a beach and next door to a distillery. Would definitely recommend if looking for somewhere to stay on the NC500, and would easily stay here again. Thank you for such a lovely stay!

We stayed at Northern Sands for 2 nights as part of a 10 day motorbike tour and none of the other hotels we stated at came close to it. The rooms are comfortable and nicely kitted out, and the food was second to none. Every single staff member was helpful and cheerful and made our stay that little bit better. A special thanks to Fern and Anya for staying after hours one night so that we could continue our Guinness consumption!

Hotel was in a handy location with ample free parking.Room was nice, clean and comfortable.Pros:Room had multiple USB connection plugs on night stands and by the dresser.Window opened slightly to cool the roomRoom was quietCons: Food was not great - maybe we were expecting more because of all of the awards.Overall - we had a great stay, and maybe the food was just a glitch. We understand that staffing is an issue all over Scotland in the hospitality industry - so we understand there may be off days. The staff as a whole were accommodating and friendly - just not in that Scottish style we have become accustomed to in our years of travel here pre-Covid.
