Having worked for this company i can assure you they have zero respect for guests what so ever. This company is for the investors profit only as proven by evicting all previous guests to gain a gov contract to house refugees, Douglas arms has been under their control for two years nearly and as obvious from the outside very little has been done to update the hotel bar covering up serious structural issues and this was only done for the refugees. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Go to the kings arms around corner instead thats the place to stay for true comfort. Payman will lie to take whatever they can from you!!!

This hotel is perfect for the centre of Dumfries! I have only given it 4 stars due to check in procedure because otherwise everything was 5 star! Was there for the BritishCycling Road Race which ran through the town! Staff were amazing- showing the race on TV in two of the lounges and providing tea and coffee!

I don't often let a negative review sway me which is why I booked here for business meeting. 4 rooms for 4 nights. As usual easy to book on hotels.com but after that is was a pure nightmare. You get sent various forms to complete for check in and you need give photo ID for each guest, you need to pay a £50 security deposit against rooms that are priced at £48 per night. You wont get check in details or codes until you have paid the deposit and given ID and then you still wont get it until the day you check in. My group checked in and one room had been cancelled because I did not pay 2 deposits. I only had one booking. They then say that it is a deposit per booking which means 1 room one booking - again not made clear on hotels.com. The whole process of checking in was a nightmare and if you are thinking about staying here, please don't. I tried to leave my review on Hotels.com but they have blocked me from doing so.

Probably should have looked into this more closely as was expecting a local pub/ hotel and was looking forward to a meal, pint and room before traveling on the next morning. How wrong could I have been!!!I booked this place online and paid for the room upfront. An email came through asking for more card details for a holding deposit so completed this link as well.I turned up to the 'hotel' at 6.30pm and initially thought it had been closed down by the way it looked.I walked into the lobby entrance which had a code lock on the door and a note saying enter the code from the email that we have sent you, or call this Number. No code so called the number and spoke to a lady who said I hadn't completed the online deposit form. I informed her that I had, eventually after much discussion she sent another link and I completed this as well. Apparently it still didn't show on their system!! She refused me entry to the 'hotel' that I had already pre-paid for and asked me to pay £50 into a bank account. At this point I said I would find somewhere else to stay and could they please refund me, as they were not prepared to let me stay in the 'hotel'.While I was there another personal arrived and had the same problem, so not just me!!I have put 'hotel' in brackets as I don't think it can be described as a hotel and looks more like a run down bedsit. To be honest i'm glad that I didn't stay as I'm sure this complaint would have gone on and on.Having emailed the company several times to speak to the owner about the treatment I received and to get a refund as didn't use their facilities I haven't received any response.

Walked away from this one , hotel dead /not a single staff member mid May evening , the extra security payment is totally out of the blue at the deserted locked front door .Without a smart phone you would be totally lost . No emails or contact - how do they not know who's booked in and contact details ? This hotel may come to life one day but at the moment this is not the service of the future and may even be unsafe for some.

Clean tidy hotel. Check in was frustrating as there were no staff around and you had to ring head office for any issues

The booking system is complicated in that it's long winded. The room was large, clean and even had a sofa in it.Plenty if fresh towels and extra pillows in the wardrobe. The room was lovely and warm(previous reviewer said it was cold)adequate tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a corner jacuzzi bath, it was a little dated but perfectly functional. There were small toiletries available to use also.Overall a cheap, comfortable room for a great price.Dont expect luxury but it's perfectly functional.

We arrived at this venue, advertised on airbnb, for a 3-night stay on Friday 22 October. On the outside it looked like an old, failing hotel, despite the photos looking very nice on Airbnb. Inside it was even worse - dark, tired-looking and cold. The advert stated no pets, but we were asked on arrival if we had pets, and a large dog barked at my wife - the owner said it was "because we were wearing masks". The receptionist led us to our room along a corridor which was full of dog hairs. He was coughing, made no effort to keep his distance and told us we didn't have to wear masks. The room was small, dirty, bore no resemblance to the advert, cold, and had noisy plumbing. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall. We were told to use a small convector heater as the central heating wouldn't be switched on until at least 11am the next day, despite overnight temperatures dropping to 4c. This also could not have been used in the bathroom, so a shower or bath would have been out of the question or downright dangerous! We stayed 10-15 minutes while we looked for an alternative hotel. This was 2 hours away as it was the start of school half-term. When we told the receptionist we refused to stay, he was quite rude and abrupt.Airbnb were appalling - offering no support whatsoever.Avoid this place like the plague! Who knows - you may even catch one!

Partner and I stayed here as we travelled back down from Scotland. We spontaneously booked this hotel for £30 for the evening 24 hours in advance which we found was a good/reasonable price. We found the room itself to be one of the most comfortable hotel stays we have had during our tour around Scotland. Everything felt clean and smelt fresh. The pillows were plump, and felt new. Had one of the most quiet, yet restful night's sleep. It was a shame to leave after one night! Everything ticked our box! We left feeling incredibly satisfied and even dissapointed to be leaving. There was no outside noise, and everything was peaceful. Our door felt heavy and secure, given us that element of secruity and peace as we slept, or even left the room for dinner. There was also a choice of shower or bath, we felt spoilt for choice. Plenty of clean towels and hand soap. I love the fact this place offers filcilities like baths. Always an added bonus. There was plenty of parking, out on the street and a small off road car park the hotel has for it's guests. That is certainly not a worry.Extra milk, toilet rolls, biscuits etc were all on a table in reception if you needed more, however everything we needed was all catered for in our room.TV was provided with adjustable stand to position it wherever you may need it, which was a nice feature. Plenty of plug sockets, and space to roam about in.Even walking into the hotel smelt lovely (autumnal smell down one corridor which smelt absolutely lovely) you can tell it's well kept and loved. We tried hard to think of any negatives about our room/stay but couldn't at all. We left extremely happy.Although not seeing anyone behind the desk, we would both like to thank the staff at the Douglas Arms for our comfortable, yet peaceful stay here. We would certainly consider coming back here. We felt passionate to voice our experience on review sites to tell others what this hotel is certainly capable of providing.Once again, thank you very much for the hard work and love the staff provide to the hotel-it certainly shows!

Booked this room on day I was staying read the reviews and thought twice I was slightly daunted by all the emails for ID but was easy to upload sign forms on my phone was sent messages with codes for key box which worked with no problems. Room was clean & comfortable tea/coffee facilities with additional supplies in foyer if needed loads of towels & toilet paper & a decent shower. I would say good value if you just need a bed for the night.
