I was pleasantly surprised about how amazing this place was. The Hotel is in a a great location, amazing Employees. Extremely friendly locals that made us feel welcome. The Employees helped us get reservations, get around town, even let us know about a steamboat that was visiting the town. We will be back someday.

ALSOKNOWNAS*THE BLACK SHEEP*This beautiful,old,and perfectly located hotel, is one of my favourite places to eat here in campletown.This has been the eoyal hotel for as long as i remember,At some point, the large downstairs has been split into 2 separate areas.a restaurant area, and then a small bar area with outside seating for drinking and / or eating if you choose.Dependong how much you like nice fresh often wet cold air and changeable Scottish weather!The fish and chips have never been anything but delicious, and I shall always visit when I'm in campletown.That being said,it could most definitely benefit with a bit of an update on the interior decor.inside is dated and makes it appear somewhat dingy and dirty even though it is not dirty.I understand that the historical period of the building may want to be kept.This can be done in so many creative ways these days.just old and indeed of bit of a paint fix and refurbishment.

We was visiting Town and on Sunday evening there were not much places to eat, finally get take-away food from The Royal, and it was nice.

Absolutely scandalous pricing and certain members of the restaurant staff were clearly not trained to handle customer service relations , I seen countless parties turned away by a young waitress after alleged booking over sights , I watched on in disbelief no accommodation was made for these parties and the potential revenue they would bring

After a very uncomfortable night at the Ardshiel this place was a breath of fresh air - large, comfortable rooms, fantastic restaurant serving a generous breakfast and a great pub, all in the most central location in town. Caroline in particular was a gracious host and made us feel very welcome upon arrival.Rooms here were well worth the extra money and provided us with a comfortable mattress and bedding, excellent power shower with lots of hot water, heating that worked when we needed it not to mention fantastic views of the esplanade and waterfront. Cherry on top was saving £30 by booking direct with the hotel.Looking forward to our next visit to Campbeltown, will return to the Ardshiel for dramming in the bar, and The Royal for eating and sleeping! ??

We stopped for dinner while in town. I had a chicken burger with BBQ sauce. There was a lot of sauce and the flavour was quite intense overpowering everything else. The chicken was a bit overdone making it chewy rather than juicy. That said it was edible. Okay but could have been better.My wife had Mac and cheese and enjoyed it.The lady at the table next to us left her Madras as it was "swimming in oil" the man with her had the steak and it was a bit underdone for his taste but looked medium /rare and would have suited me okay. I think the staff offered an alternative to the Madras and didn't charge for it when that was declined.The place was virtually empty but seemed to be busy later on as there was a bit of consideration of the bookings before we were eventually shown to a table.Walkability: Positioned on the harbour front and close to car parking.

Had lunch with friends at The Royal Hotel. Lovely place for a treat. The food was delicious, staff were friendly & professional. Would definitely return.Food & drinks: Delicious food, reasonably priced.
