We were saying nearby, and decided to to go the Angus hotel for dinner. We waited 35 minutes from our orders being taken for food to arrive. The starters were good and very much enjoyable, however the mains were something else, we both ordered pasta dishes from the menu and found them not be as good as they could have been. The stroganoff was watery and not creamy and the Mac and cheese was very mushy and little chorizo on top. We ordered two sides and were saddened by how disappoint they were. The Parmesan fries has a tiny sprinkling of Parmesan for a big bowl full of fries, the onion rings were as they described crispy and nice but flavour was lacking. I personally think the food was over priced for what we payed, and both main dishes were definitely not £15 worthy! The staff were really friendly, so couldn?t fault the staff, it was more down to the food.Food & drinks: Food was 2/10

At first it looks like a good deal. The location good with everything nearby including a huge tescos next door. The spa area is lovely too. That's about itMy room was an inner room looking into a dismal industrial scene of roof tops and pipes. Another room was shown but no better (booked 6months in advance)No this is the bit that really grinded my gears...I picked this hotel for the deal as the food looked good with plenty of vegetarian options. Unfortunately I found this to be bait to lure me in.On the first night I ordered vegetarian haggis neeps and tatties a simple easy dish , but they didn't have neeps so asked if I would like carrots.yes. what arrived was a teaspoon full of -over salted- potato, a tablespoon of gravel and carrot batons (complete with freezer burns and zapped in the microwave)silly me for thinking the would be mashed. I sent it back and chose the only other option to me- arancini. My second course was another foolproof recipe - macaroni cheese which was cooked probably in batch last year and nuked in the microwave until any signs of moisture was removed and the pasta had returned to it alpha state ...dried. Impressive. On the second evening I had to have the same starter , I opted for gnocchi with blue cheese and hazel nuts. A simple dish with basic ingredients. They didn't have blue cheese so my only other option was a pizza . This wasn't not nice it was made inedible due to a weird flavour which I couldn't work out. The waiter was like a deer in the headlights and a lovely man called Brian was able to professionally take onboard my complaints and I was offered another meal the following evening. Word had got about and a food shop was to be done the next day (Tesco's is about 3 feet away)The following evening I had my third arancini due to lack of options and I was able to have the gnocchi now that the chef had done a shop. It was revolting. I worked out what the weird taste was from the previous evening it was carbon. Carbon build up from a manky kitchen. This is pretty basic first week in food hygiene. I didn't bother complaining. What's the point?Breakfast was dismal too no yogurt pots just a big communal bowl with bits of other peoples stuff in it. The butter was on little plates but not like curls but just slapped on. It didn't taste like butter either. The hot food was no better and why is there frozen roast potatoes for breakfast.Prices at the bar were shocking too for cheap wine.My advice would be; sack the chef, sorry (not sorry), she ruined my valentine's get away.

Was here for a tribute night this weekend with my family, stayed 2 nights, on the disco night we received a three course meal which was very disappointing. The starter and dessert was not what was advertised on the menu and was a very small portion! The pool was great even though there was a few showers that didn?t work! Rooms were basic but beds were very comfortable, location was superb and had the best Guinness I?ve tried in a cafe across from the hotel! Staff were very helpful and was always willing to help with any issues! Overall for the price it was a great stay and would definitely return to the hotel for another tribute weekend!Rooms: The bathrooms didn?t have any hooks for towel when taking a shower! One room didn?t have air con when the other one did so would be good to have air con in all roomsWalkability: There are a number of different walks along the river which was a great idea for a sunny day!

My family and I booked a stay at The Angus hotel for 3 nights. On the second night we dined in the restaurant and we had the worst dining experience ever. We ordered the same dishes off the menu, prawn, coconut and lemongrass lollipops with a spicy almond satay sauce followed but fish and chips. The prawn lollipops arrived with a different sauce, which we were not told about and it was noticeably off. The alternative sauce was a yellow salsa which was fizzy and fermenting. We notified the waiter and he returned after speaking to the chef explaining they had run out of the ingredients for the satay sauce. Firstly, why did the chef not inform the waiting staff of this before service and secondly, why did the chef replace it with an old sauce that had gone bad? We were not offered a refund or apology. The mains came and again the minted pea mash was off, our chips were either over cooked or undercooked and the fish was overcooked. We could barely eat any of it. We left quickly, feeling hungry and very disappointed with the service and meal. The following day we both felt ill. We did not move far from a toilet or our bed. Both my partner and I experienced stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite and dizziness. We both had a sleepless night we felt so ill. It took us a full week to get over the food poisoning. We only ate at the hotel restaurant on the that day, there is no where else we could have got salmonella poisoning. Avoid eating at this hotel!
