I have stayed at the Mercure quite a few times and generally find it is a very pleasant hotel to stay in. This time was no exception. I had a great room with sea view and the staff in reception and bar were very welcoming. I have mostly found this to be so. They are refurbishing the downstairs part but the gym is still open for guests. Its old equipment but everything works and for me in the Winter evening it beats trying to run in the dark along the beach. I am visiting Ayr in January again so will look to rebook. Remember it is a 3 star hotel so dont compare with the Dorchester or Savoy. For what I get for what I pay it is 5 stars

For a 3-star hotel I can?t fault it too much. But it is definitely a place that had seen better days, though would be nice to have better sound proofing.
I wish the swimming pool was open though as it would have been good to swim during my stay. Hope they will open it back up by the time I?m next in town.
Staff were all friendly, responsive, and despite being inundated by a large group of guests (which I was not expecting to encounter a group of 20(?) at 7am for breakfast) the staff handled it very well at breakfast, next couple of mornings were a more civilised and relaxed buffet breakfast.
I didn?t pick the nicer view rooms but it was reasonable though with it being an old building you can hear everything upstairs, downstairs, left, right and across the hall.
At night unfortunately there are drivers who sound like they are having a joy ride drifting across the car park.
Otherwise it is well situated in centre(?) of town and equi-distance from train station and beach.

Had a good night away. Hotel was in a good location. It is a bit dated and tired looking. Maybe needs a refresh. Food really good. Staff friendly, helpful and attentive. Could easily walk to shops, beach and centre of town. Quiet location.
Rooms: We had the privilege room which had a small seating area and a good view
Nearby activities: Within walking distance of the bus stop, shops, beach
Food and drinks: Dinner and breakfast were good. Great choice. Food was hot, tasty and enjoyable

Great hotel and wonderful service from very friendly and helpful staff.
Use the Conference Room facilities regularly and the room is always set up to my group's requirements. The staff have a professional attitude and nothing is ever any trouble.
Nearby activities: Very close to the town centre. Plenty eating places nearby and the Gaiety Theatre a stone's throw away. Within easy walking distance of the beach.
Safety: Clearly illuminated fire exits.
Fire extinguishers too
Walkability: Two lifts available.

Rooms are comfortable with standard facilities, however do look slightly dated. Location is perfect for Glasgow or Aaron trips and only a few 100m from the beach. The breakfast is good value with a large selection of options to meet all dietary requirements.
The staff are the real gem of this hotel. Nothing is too much hassle and always keen to help. Would recommend staying.

Nice hotel, nice breakfast, helpful staff, who genuinely made stay more pleasant. The Room I was in was pretty standard but had everything you needed and clean, but believe there are different levels of rooms available. Area is very central for ayr
