Was looking forward to the curry night. Service very slow; even though it was a set menu it would have been useful to have a menu on the table of what to expect. Food wasn't full of flavour, needs more seasoning and less heat. Lamb well cooked. Overall, it was expensive for a mediocre meal. We know this is a training restaurant and the staff are very young, but more coaching and supervision would have helped and made a better dining experience. For example, 3 members of staff passed our table but didn't remove empty dishes for quite a while, and we noticed the same on other tables. Also, as dishes were being cleared it would be good to have been told what to expect next.

Dined at the Woodlands Restaurant on Saturday for lunch whilst at the Boswell Book Festival. The food itself was good however the portions were very small which when paying £29 for one course and £38 for 2 courses does not represent good value. This is probably why there was very few customers present. For this reason I will not be dining again at the Woodlands Restaurant and would not recommend to there. Such a shame as Dumfries House is such a wonderful venue and facility.

We had a superb meal, served up by the Hospitality team in training. I had chicken fricassee, hubby had the fish pie. Both of these main courses were absolutely delicious. For dessert I had cherry & frangipane tart and hubs had apple & blackberry crumble. Again, we were extremely impressed with the quality of these dishes. Followed by coffee & a truffle. The service was great, but not so attentive that it was interuptive. We were fortunate enough to have a beautiful sunny day, so had a walk around nearby, which is stunning Woodlands. Definetely recommend, even if they were just 'in training'. Best grounding ever for someone learning the catering/hospitality trade. Well done & and thank you to ALL the team ?

We ate twice here and it was delicious and reasonable, with charming staff. Nothing was too much trouble; it was a very nice experience

The food is only okay but the show and experience were FANTASTIC. My advice - pay the extra little bit per person for the VIP tickets as you see the show directly in front of you, the non-stop mimosas are good and the bar is open.

We had an excellent meal serves up by nervous waiters but I couldn?t fault the quality of the service and food. Best fish pie I?ve ever had. Very reasonably priced too.

Fantastic to be back on the first day they opened back up . The food was great and nothing was to much bother for the staff . I liked it so much I'm booked back in for next sunday
