The scones are great, but there are limited vegetarian items and not enough accomodations for dietary restrictions. I am lactose intolerant and vegetarian, it would be nice to have more vegan options.Vegetarian options: there are limited vegetarian items and not enough accomodations for dietary restrictions. Lovely cafe and outdoor seating area for lunch with beautiful walks and walled garden .

The food is good and there is a selection of inside and outside seating. However, the queue to be served is long and slow moving because it gets very busy and the staff could he more helpful.

Great wee café. There's no table service. You come in and order at the till. If you're getting hot food, it will be brought to your table. You get drinks and cake on the spot. There's plenty to choose from when it comes to hot foods. For example, paninis, soup, baked potatoes, quiche, sausage rolls as well as cold food like sandwiches. Lots of different cakes and sweets to choose from like cookies, traybakes, sponge cakes. They have very good coffee and offer milk alternatives and decaff options. There's a lot of seating available both inside and outside. Dogs are welcome outside. The staff are really efficient and friendly. I'd be very happy to visit again.

Firstly the grounds of Dumfries House are amazing and well worth a visit. The cafe however isn?t. One would hope for something better at such a prestigious location. It has an air of being run down and mismanaged. We were served the dullest cheese sandwiches on plain sliced white bread with a handful of crisps and stale carrot cake. Get your act together or give up and get someone else in who can do a good job.

Allegedly dog friendly- but dogs not allowed inside. So not actually dog friendly at all.

Pleasant surroundings - decent conversion of a former stables to a semi-posh cafe that runs along with the walks and tours for Dumfries House. Not verey inspiring menu but all reasonably done Minor air of trading on snob vaue of the Estate & Big Hoose & aiming for National Trust [ish] feel

Lovely building; very comfy feel. However, coming into the cafe you are faced with a vague open space in front of the counter with no guidance for what to do where. Fine if you have visited before, but as newbies we ended up wandering about like confused hens while the plentiful staff completely ignored us.Menu limited; food very good; service vague - mostly the staff treated us as getting in the way of their far more important tasks. I stood at the counter for nearly five minutes while SIX staff busied about, studiously avoiding eye contact. Also, they won't clear dishes from the table until you've left, so trays pile up on unoccupied tables.

Used to be a nice cafe with snacks, soups, cakes, and sandwiches, unfortunately, looks like in an attempt to increase the profits they employ now could care less teenage staff, and started to leave the quality of the food behind what used to be.

Went to the cafe hoping for a full English Breakfast. Choices were bacon roll or sandwich, sausage in roll or sandwich and scrambled egg. I had the bacon in toast in brown bread and my wife had scrambled egg with brown bread Staff were very pleasant. After a short wait a young lady brought our breakfast. Tea was hot and plentiful! Unfortunately, my bacon came with white toast (first mistake) my wife's scrambled eggs came with white toast (second mistake). My bacon was like hard plastic and had obviously not been cooked fresh. Two bites were enough! My wife had the same problem. Arrived with white toast not brown and scrambled eggs that had obviously been cooked some time ago. I love Dumfries House, but we will not be returning for breakfast! Not only have I been a cook, but I was also a Cookery teacher, so hopefully I know what I am saying. This is just basic cooking that is done in minutes. As we paid beforehand, I had already left a tip. Mistake!
