The trouble with Lidl is that you possibly go in to both buy a few items and see what there is that you possibly didn't intend buying, only to find that by the time you reach the checkout you've bought far more than originally intended.Fortunately there were quite a few items of food, which looked tempting and would no doubt be quite tasty, that was until the list of ingredients was carefully gone through, only for the words that meant that I had to put the item back, as I'm alergic to both Garlic and certain spices like Chillies and certain hot spices normally found in curries and many oriental dishes. Why even what are classed as traditional British foods have the dreaded words 'New Improved Flavour', which in the majority of cases sees the above Garlic and other hot spices added to them actually destroys the traditional taste not improve it, except for those who enjoy such additional ingredients. Like some people like Lidl for the variety of foreign dishes that the person might have eaten and enjoyed whilst on holiday in some foreign destination, but as many people add salt, pepper, or some favourite sauce or flavouring to their food, then perhaps Lidl could make traditional meals in the old unadulterated recipe, and suggest, plus stock Garlic in powder or sauce form, suggesting that the customer buys it to add to the strength of the taste Tey require. What is good about Lidl is the low cost of many food items, plus the numerous centre aisles special offers, which are not only well below the price of many equivalent branded items found both in large retail stores, DIY outlets, and even on the Internet. Other good points are the freshly baked pre-partly baked items from the bakery section, whose smells waft through the store enticing customers to perhaps be tempted to buy one or two items. Whilst unlike Aldi, on going to the checkout, the checkout operator doesn't tell you to hurry up and just put your items back in the trolley and then go across to a narrow ledge so as to pack the items in your time and not theirs, as it seems certain WWII Germanic time and motion ideas mean the faster a customer can be pushed through the checkout process the more customers can be dealt with. At Lidl, even when the store is busy, the checkout operator usually smiles and when apologised to for perhaps being slightly slow, mainly through being no longer in the lower age bracket, the operator sometimes asks if you'd like a hand. The refurbished store at Alness is a pleasant and clean, plus well stocked store, though sometimes the special offers are soon snapped up in the day they go out on sale.
