We first used this pub back in the eighties and we still go back there from time to time, even though we now live in Nottingham. It's like a little time capsule (in the best way), bringing back memories of the good old days.
That's not the only reason we go back time and again, over all the years the food has been fantastic and this latest visit was the best so far. I had a steak and ale pie with all the trimmings and my wife had a cajun buttermilk chicken burger. Both of them were beautiful so much meat in the pie!
It's a great pub in a great setting, if you're passing by pop in, you will not be disappointed.

Visited area for a short break. Loved the pub. Everyone so friendly. Beer good and pub nice and cosy with log fire burning. The following day we ate and food was also nice, generous portions too. Would definitely be back.

Lovely meal last Thursday evening. Splendid service and great to see so many others enjoying the pub. Apologies I forgot to take photos of our meals! I'll try to remember next time.
My pint of London Pride was splendid. It went down rather too quickly.

Fabulous food, great beer selection and friendly atmosphere, now under new management and massively improved. Highly recommend the pies and the superbly kept ales. I may become a regular!

The room was very clean and well presented, the tea and coffee facilities were excellent. The food was great as was the service, breakfast was excellent as well.
I was very harsh on dropping 1 star due to the duvet being too thick for me and there was no alternative, so I didn't sleep well. Also the bedside tables in the room I was in are pretty much unusable due to the size of the lamps on them.
I do fully recommend The Black Bull as somewhere to stay and will certainly try to stay there again next time I'm in the area!

Put here for work but good position for quiet exploring.
Just had pie n pint offer ( wednesdays). Home made n delicious. Good hearty breakfast in the mornings too. Highly recommend.

Stayed night in newly refurbished bedroom very comfortable and spotlessly clean only problem being that it was too hot due to the weather not the pub! Lovely breakfast served by Steve the Landlord a very enjoyable experience, hopefully to be repeated in the future.

We met friends for supper and it was excellent. So much choice, both on the regular menu and the specials. I had local trout stuffed with smoked salmon mousse which was so good ?. Home made pies - again several choices - fabulous ?.
Can't wait to go again.
