I really like Lidl for the prices and the range of products available, with specials each month. I usually shop in Abingdon, but stopped here after a day in the Cotswolds. PS The Lidl fragranced candles are gorgeous.

It?s a Lidl

The store had a lot of fresh fruit and veg. The layout had changed slightly from my last visit but it seemed to be better by the entrance. Isles seem a little narrow especially as everyone likes to stop. Shelves were stocked well and they had enough staff on tills. Clean and easy shop

Whilst shopping in Witney store today 23/7/25 I had with me my 2 grandchildren. Aged 2 & 5. Each had their small trolly and I had a basket. Well behaved and happy girls.
We used the end till nearest to the exit door.
Built up high to our right of the till with boxes. Behind us a lovely foreign family with 4 children.
As we came to the end of our shop the gentleman on the till advised that I couldn?t take my basket through and I said ok. I took the two children through as they had small trolleys. The people behind had blocked the route to put the basket away. So I proceeded forward. Alarms started ringing. The security arch was right at the end of the shopping till! I was trying to empty bags onto the counter provided, get the 2 year old back ask the 5 year old not to block the exit as many people were trying to pass us to exit, meanwhile the alarm kept going.
Then this awful rude Lidl member of staff approached, snatching the basket from under me, I?m 63 and have a disabled left arm, with her raised voice told me off and said I was told not to take the basket out! Honestly, it would have been much nicer if she had asked if I needed any help. I told her off for being rude and she shouted something and stormed off with my basket. I took the children out of peoples way and unloaded my shopping to take to the car.
Point 1 - the exit on the last till is narrow, has a huge pile of boxes or the back of the fridges so not easy to lift baskets over and the alarm at the end of the isle from the till is way too close to the till.
Point 2.- Staff should be kind, offer assistance and not shout at customers struggling with children, heavy shopping and alarms going off. No need for her rudeness. A bit of training I feel wouldn?t go Amis?s. I doubt she has children or she would have possibly been a bit more concerned for their welfare and mine.
I have shopped at Lidl for 30 years in Norfolk and now in Oxfordshire. I have never experienced this mentality before. My granddaughter was so concerned she kept asking over and over why that lady had shouted at granny. I told her she was probably new and hasn?t had children.. or she was training still. It traumatised her.
I don?t feel comfortable now shopping in Witney. I?m afraid of that member of staff.
Two other couples said as we were leaving that I should complain. I?m not one to complain but feel that it needs to be addressed.
I tried to put in a complaint to the website, it will not send. I spoke to the robot and it tells me to complete the complaint form that doesn?t work! Lidl just doesn?t want to help its customers. Very sad times.

The queues are unbearable lately. And they have started treating every customer as a criminal, inspecting bags, forcing you to scan a receipt to get out, and inspecting receipts against your shop. Not to mention the stupidity of the self serve machines that complain for 1 of every 2 scans. Not worth it anymore. Cows in farms are treated better.
