HSBC Witney have closed their counters a few years ago. All cash (and cheque transactions if one does not have the means to pay in cheques online) need to be conducted through the foyer DIY (I deliberately do not call it self-service as that would imply a level of service is provided, which frankly it is not) machines. Very cleverly, First Direct which is a subsidiary of HSBC, changed their debit card provider a while ago and ever since, First Direct customers have been unable to pay cash into their account as we are being told that the new cards are not compatible with HSBC's DIY machines. It has been at least 2 years that I was told by the foyer advisers in Witney that the card incompatibility situation was going to be rectified. How long will that take? Or rather, is this the beginning of the end of cost-effective banking through First Direct, the hint being that what used to be a much reduced customer service previously, has now been taken away from us altogether? The numerous foyer staff who seemingly are there to diligently usher customers to the DIY machines, being ever so helpful, advise us to use the Post Office. And where that is not an option, their top advice is that one takes a 20 mile round trip to their Oxford branch. How very helpful of you, First Direct and HSBC. I am not sure yet where I will take my banking business going forward, but clearly there is no future perspective for remaining with First Direct. Shame really, seeing their online- and phone support have always been absolutely superb over the 20 years of banking with First Direct.

Went into this branch to pay some cash into my First Direct account, only to find that the automated machine wouldn't accept my card. Spoke to a member of staff who informed me that since the card changed to MasterCard it no longer worked in their machines, and that it had been this way for 'a number of years' but would be fixed eventually. He then said I had to pay it in at the post office. So literally the only thing I can't do with a First Direct (an HSBC company) account over the phone I also can't do in an HSBC branch because of the company's lack of the most basic planning. Staggeringly useless.

The cash in machine, the only useful one in there, wasn't even on. Turning it on would take 15 minutes apparently

Went to the bank this morning to pay in coins, was told to go to Post Office, what?s the point of a bank if you can?t take money to it

Not open weekends, only when people are working. No personal check pay in machine to access at weekends either.

Dreadful service. My son had money taken fraudulently from his account, even after reporting it! Contacted HSBC again, they said they would replace card and refund money...4 weeks later after requesting replacement bank cards, TWICE, he spoke to branch manager - who was very apologetic, said he?d reorder card, it never arrived. My son requested one to be sent to branch, 8 days later, still no card...Furious, and totally incompetent doesn?t even come close!

I can understand that there is some work in progress inside the building. BUT you can not close all the services just like that ! In some way there should be access to Pay In machine or ATMs ! The nearest branch is in Oxford so come on...

This is the slowest bank ever with the most not working and slow app you can get. I went to open a bank account for the first time with no proof of address but I had other documents and guarantor. They agreed to open a basic bank account untill I manage to find a proof of address. One lady sayed utility bill is fine for example phone bill or TV licence.I went and signed contract with 3 mobile went to the bank next day the answer from a different lady was we do NOT accept 3 mobile. She as well sayed TV licence should be ok. I went and bought that for 150 pounds. In the next few days I went to have my normal bank account set up now hopefully with proof of address still didn't work.Now I have Monzo. Set it up for 5 min. Fast app normal account everything works like a charm. I closed my HSBC of cource.

Very poor customer service, the staff in the branch is useless. They send you to the phone or the machines inside the branch insted of helping you...
