Air conditioning was broken and essentially lied to by receptionist that it would be looked into. As you can see from a review 3 weeks ago aircon was broken then as well. A cheap bottle of red wine was left in the room as an apology, we left this there at check out. A very poor nights sleep in sweltering heat. Expect much more for the cost of the room. I advise people look elsewhere.
Rooms: The room would have been ideal if the aircon worked

The hotel would have been lovely apart from the room I was in had an adjoining door the the room next door which meant I could hear every word spoken by the couple in there. The ceiling and floorboards to the room above were clearly made from the creakiest wood as every footsteps sounded like a tree falling in a haunted forest.
The worst part was the room above was clearly occupied by either parents with kids or they'd booked the adjoining room and let their kids play WWE and acrobatics all night long making an absolute racket. This carried on until the early hours then a brief respite before kicking off again at 05:30 for two nights running???????
There's a lot to be said for staying in a town centre in a hotel with "character" but if you value your privacy and ability to sleep then I would avoid this hotel like the plague.

Flies all in the reception, the rooms air conditioning is broken, the room we booked was a privilege twin room and we were given a double regular room. They showed us other room that were not close to what we needed seeing as we had a person in our group with a heat intolerance who can?t sleep in a hot stuffy room. They were unable to sort us out and then refused to give us a refund so we could find somewhere new to stay

A bit disappointing really. Room was comfortable but very hot. Maintenance of the building was not great. Someone left their room service tray outside in the morning but it was still there in the evening. Breakfast was subpar for a 4* hotel. Fruit was in a poor state. No wholemeal or brown bread. Get a decent coffee machine or ask people what they want to drink. Cooked breakfast was good though. Staff were very welcoming.

Although this establishment is very central and well located, the room we got was tragic and borderline inhospitable. Once we got into the room, we had killed a handful of moths which have clearly been making a meal of the carpets. One of the moths killed was on the bed which was pretty gross. The walls are cracking as are the ceilings and the carpets were dirty. The bed linens were as coarse as sandpaper and the pillows were flatter than crepes. The sheets were so coarse that my elbows got rug burns from turning on the sheets. The mattress was basically a cardboard box it was so uncomfortable. There was a light from the thermostat that kept blinking all throughout the night and could not be stopped. The only redeeming factor was that the bathroom was modern and clean. Noise from the road at night was ceaseless throughout the night so if you are a light sleeper, you will have a hard time. All in all, it was very run down and uncomfortable.

The three most important factors for me are location, sleep quality and staff. In this respect, this hotel delivers very well. The dinner and breakfast were rather ordinary and the room could do with a refresh. We used the small car park at the rear for a chunky £30 but it gave good security for an expensive car. But overall we were very happy to have stayed at the Eastgate Hotel

The hotel was conveniently located and is easily found and The hotel is very central within easy reach of shops, eating places. The reception staff Ms. Mannat and Mr. Manohar Shetty were very friendly, fast and obliging and The restaurant staff were most friendly and helpful. Smooth check in and check out.The room was well equipped with auto cooler and heater, hot water, clean toilet bathroom. Plenty of electric sockets to charge our devices, TV etc. Extra bed was provided. Had a memorable stay in Oxford.Nearby activities: Visit to Oxford University, Museum etcSafety: ExcellentWalkability: At short distance from City Centre

The general manager i can see his name ?Jason? he doesn?t know how to manage this hotel and his staff. Who hired this guy in charge with this hotel? Not idea. Customer service doesn?t exist in this place. Never coming back. Stressful experience for checking in.The only good thing is the location in town of Oxford , nothing else.Complaining to the receptionist and nobody answering. Very bad experience , customer service doesn?t exist. This people from the reception they speak in their language not english. We always stay with Mercury in many other cities, never had the same issue , nobody helps us with our luggage , we request to extend our booking the guy from reception doesn?t have any clue what?s going on . you have better options to stay in Oxford.

I have stayed a number of times but was utterly appalled by the state of the rooms on my most recent trip. For a hotel charging £250 per night, I expected a certain standard, but what I encountered was far from acceptable. Black mould everywhere in the bathroom, stains on the walls, making everything feel really filthy and unhealthy. No hot water in the morning (!) because of a boiler failure. Only plus is the location in central Oxford.

This hotel is a gem in the centre of Oxford neighbouring some of the finest colleges. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and efficient and the rooms are quintessentially Oxford. Buses to just about everywhere are easily accessible from the many bus stops a few steps away. The breakfast is excellent.

It's a quirky place with steps in strange places, with 3 to 4 step variations at odd places in the corridors because it is the combination of a number of buildings built over centuries. So surprised that the rooms are air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms.

Not great and not value for money. Noisy extraction unit outside window on late in evening and turned on in early morning. They accept cash but had no change in till at all???. Rooms in need of updating.

The hotel is well located and within short walk from all the places of interest. The room was clean, but dark. Wear slippers or keep your shoes on as the carpets are sticky, there is a reason the room is dark!Hotel restaurant, don't eat here as the food is awful. Our waiter for our evening meal was well-meaning, disorganized, and constantly confused. If it wasn't for our young waiter, the whole experience of eating food here would have been incredibly disappointing. So, thank you to that young chap, you made a awful meal unintentionally a funny experience. The music that was played in the restaurant was ear splitting awful, hi-energy euro trance dance music is not what anyone over the age of 21 want's to listen to. Advice for the hotel manager, approve the music list in advance and don't let anyone deviate away from this. The English breakfast tasted like it was cooked in the same fat as last nights meal, everything tasted the same. Scrambled eggs tasted like bacon, bacon tasted like last night fish, god only knows what happened to the tomatoes. Looking nice and tasting nice are worlds apart in this restaurant, you have been warned.Parking @ £30 a night seems a bit steep as the hotel isn't cheap. Cheaper to park in the local shopping center which is approx. a 10-15 walk through the center.I booked the hotel through a Groupon deal, including breakfast, dinner and a bottle of wine for £229.00 which is a lot of money for x1 night. My advice would be to give this deal a swerve, it no way stands up for such a spend that I would recommend.
