Short story of a good shoe shop.
This shop used to be in Cornmarket and was run but they same two-three employees, who served principally locals. With the advent of the Westgate, Clarks moved into the new, huge shopping mall, and changed drastically its stock and personality.
When I went in last year, I was horribly disappointed by the new stock and the inexperience of the staff, but I decided to give Clarks time, and wonders of wonders, things have changed.
This is what I learnt from my shopping experience today:
1. Staff is (finally) well trained and not scared at the sight of children who need to be measured; there is more staff in general, and yes, they are young, but I guarantee that none of them were on their phones or ignoring me when I went in
2. They have more children's stock than last year, and staff is good at measuring children
3. They have an idea when the new stock is coming in
4. They open on time
5. They have quite a lot of choice of comfortable + fashionable items, although limited for ladies (hence only 4 stars), which means I might have to the Reading or Witney branches for more 'provincial' items (we don't all wear sneakers!)

I popped into the store today with a query, which Ilya kindly addressed quickly. Thank you. The staff in this store have always been excellent as far as I am concerned.

Wed 30 July I visited this shop. Was totally ignored by the two shop assistants as I tried one shoe on. They didn't even look at me so engrossed in their chat. I had to interrupt them but they looked at me so bemused that I would even interrupt them. I took the shoe off as I was intending to buy a pair and told them to forget it. They had just lost a sale. The manager tried to tell me they were discussing an issue, he was lying cos we could hear the conversation I will find another more friendlier and helpful Clarke shop.

Terrible experience at this store. We got disrespected as customers. The store staff Ilya insulting customer, completely ruined the brand image. Terrible shopping experience. The manager Denise did not help the situation as well. We expected more from such a well established brand. Will never return! And customers please stay away from this store.

It started badly? my toddler daughter was fitted for new shoes on the Friday, with the shop assistant assuring my wife that concerns she raised regarding the shoes appearing too large were unfounded. However, it became clear on Saturday that my daughter was tripping over herself while running around and the shoes actually slipped off more than once. So back to Clarks we went?
The manager (Megan), could not have been more helpful. She re-measured the wee girl?s feet (needless to say the results differed from the previous day?s), and quickly brought out an excellent selection of options that were far more suitable. Megan could also not have been more apologetic that we had been sent home with ill-fitting shoes originally. Now we have shoes that fit perfectly and the wee one is happily running around - still with little-to-no control, but this no longer has anything to do with the shoes!

Very limited staffing, they did get the shoes to try on but then left us to it. Not the service we associate with clarks. We left without making a purchase.
