Absolutely fantastic experience! We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at the Nut Tree Inn, and it couldn?t have been more perfect?peaceful, relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable. We chose the tasting menu, and every single course was flawless. My only regret? I was the designated driver, so I had to miss out on the wine pairing!

I recently visited here with my husband.
Having been here before, I thought it would be lovely to have a meal here. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. We were going to have the tasting menu, but at least two of the dishes were tomato based, very similar and rather unimaginative.
But the reason I am leaving this review and I never normally leave negative reviews , (as I feel it is unfair on establishments, I like to leave positive reviews) was because we feel we were seriously over charged.
It was a very hot day and we fancied fish. So we had a the prawn cocktail, followed by the turbot. The waiter did come to tell us that the turbot would be £65.
Knowing that this fish is expensive, this wasn't a problem, but then we realised it was £65 per person. My husband being very kind, said no problem. ( I wasn't happy, having enjoyed turbot and other amazing fish at great restaurants for £40/ £45 which is more realistic.)
And, when it arrived, it was a tiny portion, they had included some fries and greens with this. But for £65, I felt well and truly taken advantage of and rather foolish.
The service was pleasant, but the Prawn Cocktail was rather mediocre and charging £130 for two tiny portions of turbot isn't acceptable, I sadly think this place has ideas rather above its station.
I enjoy dining out, and regularly eat at some of the most highly rated restaurants in the country. I only say this because I consistently have far superior experiences at these places, enjoying both tasting menus and a la carte menus. I respect both how expensive these amazing ingredients are and the artistry and skills of the chefs, but these places would not dream of charging what the Nut Tree did for this nice, but tiny, exorbitantly expensive dish.
I visited one lunch time near the end of June. I am leaving this review now, because I have subsequently dined at other michelin starred restaurants with superior food and more realistic prices.
I feel it is morally wrong to take advantage of a diner like this.

The food was excellent and deserves the Michelin rating. The creativity and presentation were impressive. Loved the indoor and outdoor space. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the 30 min drive from Oxford.

Food was worthy of Michelin star, delicate taste well presented, friendly staff very attentive ,the plus side it was a sunny day having lunch in the garden added to the atmosphere.

If your chairs are made of plastic and the grass in your garden is fake, you cannot charge £65 for a piece of fish smothered in butter, be it Michelin star or not. Based on being so unjustifiably pretentious, we won?t be returning.

This was by far the best meal and dining experience of my life. My wife and I had a voucher for my 30th birthday, and it was truly wonderful.
To start the staff were so kind, welcoming, smiley, happy, and attentive too - but not in an overwhelming way; it was perfect. They also weren?t pretentious or judgy, like some top establishments can be - so you can tell everyone genuinely cares.
The food was simply divine. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and added a cheese board, which was amazing too. The sommelier was super insightful and knowledgeable as well, again just adding to the experience.
There were too many delicious dishes to name - they were all genuinely lovely. It?s a Michelin-starred pub for a reason, and the price reflects that, but I can?t recommend The Nut Tree highly enough if you?re hoping to treat a loved one or celebrate something special. It will not disappoint.
Keep up the great work, team!

Seven of us had the tasting menu: clever breads, mushroom veloute, black pudding croquet, halibut, onglet steak, chocolate egg, souffle and cheese; each sensational and cleverly garnished. Lovely service, lovely pub, we enjoyed the garden, warm under rugs. And a cracking hot toddy to boot. A treat.
